Yet where does that spirit of mercy, generosity, and forgiveness come from? It has to have its roots in something quite profound. It most certainly does not come from the nature of man.

America had a nuclear monopoly between 1945 and 1950, with the most powerful war machine and navy in the annals of military history. America could have quickly and easily shut the Soviet Union down and accomplished what Hitler, Tojo, and Mussolini so coveted - World domination. What did she do? Compassionately cared for the nations she defeated in the war. Where does that heart come from? It's a lot more than just an egalitarian philosophy. What if Stalin had the monopoly? or militaristic Japan, or any other nation?
