Swimming Upstream: The Life of a Conservative Professor in Academia

Swimming Upstream-Good Job

You have done a very good job with your observation and analysis. In this case academic life is not only a mirror of the culture but is a magnification of culture; like the point where sunlight is concentrated by a convex lens. I have been an independent scholar for many years and have the luxury of not having to deal with institutional gate-keeping. You might find my recent post, God Haters, interesting:

Keep up the good work and know that there are others out here watching your back.

Great writing, Dr. Ron, here and at

your earlier four featured posts. I spent more than a quarter-century as a prof.

Swimming uphill indeed.

It's the same for conservative students. My grandson spent two semesters at an Ivy League University and left due to the rampant liberalism amongst professors and students. You're certainly right: it's a tragedy of enormous proportion Good for you for having the integrity and backbone to stand up for what's right. I know it wasn't comfortable or fun.

Visit my site and read the article to the right with "urgent" in the heading. You are invited to join our TH band of bloggers group. (All conservative) We are a close knit group of like minded patriots and would welcome you with open arms. My post has the very simple instructions at the end of the post. Ihope you will consider becoming part of our group. America needs all the conservative voices we can muster.

Excellent work

Dr. Ron

Great insight on your life as a professor and how political gerrymandering of our kids keeps them in schools that shouldn't be called schools anymore. When I was younger, I lived in Gary, IN. Mecca of the bad schools. My parents had me stay with my aunt, uncle and cousins for first and second grade so I could go to a school in Portage. A much better school. I did so well that my teacher and principal in second grade told my parents I should skip third grade and if it was possible, they'd have me skip fourth grade as well. My parents didn't let me though. The neighbor of my aunt found out I lived in Gary so I had to go back there for school. My grades went way downhill because the school was a madhouse. It's not the curriculum. It's the out of control students. The old theory of younger male elephants running out of control due to the slaughter of the dominant males to keep them under control was in full display there. School choice is part of the answer, but having fewer "I'm smarter than facts" teachers is even a bigger solution.
