Proof of Christianity: the Impossibility of the Contrary

World Class Tautology

"Impossibility of the contrary."

So this is the best evidence for Christianity? Just the concept of the alternative is so unlikely that it by default proves the opposing view? I'm sorry, Valiant, but that's a huge logical fallacy and one that I've pointed out many times before. I believe even Kent Hovind, a creationist and convicted fraudster now serving time in jail, said this was his strongest evidence for creation; just the concept of it seems so unlikely that his dogma must be true.

It's another form of arrogant reasoning. Just because it seems counter-intuitive in a subjective sense doesn't mean that it's wrong. It's often seen as intuitive for people to yield their rights in exchange for security, but history has shown repeatedly how taht doesn't work out. And just because one theory seems unlikely, it is not evidence of another being more likely. Just because a theory like quantum entanglement seems so unlikely (many argue that it is) that doesn't by default prove an opposing theory like string theory.

I'll say it again. Positive claims require positive evidence. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. The burden of proof is on the believer, who claims their deity is there. The unbeliever is merely neutral, standing by and waiting for that evidence to be presented. If the best that can be offered is a fallacy then it only further damages the argument.

Tautology indeed…

By world class tautology, do you mean your explanation of the geologic column?

I expected more from you than this. Do you have anything of any substance or is that it?

Non Sequiter

Now you're talking about the geological column? At one point did I use that in my argument? You're completely ignoring my point again, Valiant. I was addressing your post specifically and the problems with the argument that the notion of one theory being impossible acting as evidence for another. It is a major fallacy. And instead of addressing it, you throw something completely unrelated into the argument and ignore my point? That only shows to me that you have nothing of substance to respond with. I've come to expect as such, but I would hope that eventually you'll return with something less fallacious.
