Comment on: A Pragmatic Utopian Federalist

Open question to conservatives...

As likely more conservative than anyone you've ever met, I thought I should answer your question. Why does McCain get hammered while W gets a pass (mostly)?

I thought that President Bush should have been impeached because he violated his sworn oath of office. He signed "No child left behind" and actually worked on and promoted it. He signed Medicare Part D and actually promoted it. He signed McCain-Feingold. He refused to enforce border security and actually promoted not doing so. Each is a violation of his constitutional duty.

I have hammered Bush as well as McCain. Why would a conservative not support McCain in '08? Democrats will have majorities in both the House and Senate in 2009. With McCain president, Republicans will be blamed for the debacle that ensues because of the Democrats. And McCain will be "reaching across the aisle" to be bipartisan. With Obama president at least Republicans will NOT be blamed for the debacle. Democrats will.

Then, maybe conservatives can get elected and come to save the day beyond 2010 and get a conservative elected prexy in 2012.

Subject to what happens in the coming five-ish weeks, I think that conservatives will vote McCain, albeit reluctantly. That because Obama is just too scary.
