Somali Stimulus Package
You know you might have a point Donnie, he might have done that just to justify giving billions to Somali. But then again, he doesn't seem to need a reason to spend my money.
Thanks for contributing.

Except for rag tag pieces of scum pirates, Jim! I wondered why it took so long to rescue Capt. Phillips. My husband said the Navy did exactly the right thing. They engaged the enemy and wore them down. We are thankful for the outcome and gladly throw pbho his chops. He did what he was elected to do!

I think I can answer that. If he hadn't done it, he would have dropped like a stone in the poles. This is the only president in my life time that seems to govern by the polls. But he did do i in a way tha tit would seem he wasn't cold blooded. He told them to do it if the capt's life appeared to be in danger. I'm much like you in questioning his motive, but I did want to look at the background noise. The people that were screaming vulgarities at Bush for taking action like this tha tare now silent for the ObamaNation.

He did, just barely, but he did. Give him a pat on the head for that.

Doing the Right Thing
Your willingness to give credit where credit is due is admirable, Jim. Like you I am grateful for the actions taken by the President in this particular instance. However comma
If doing the right thing is done for any other purpose than doing the right thing, then it is a hollow gesture. While I very much appreciate what was done, I agree with the others here that there may be some other than honorable motivation. And that, to me, is a real-life example of why we are in the mess we are these days.

I should have title this post "But Why Did Obama Do The Right Thing?" OK, I agree, I'm sure he has an alternative motive. I'm sure it was to save face and the way he did it convinces me. But what did we expect?
Thanks Boaz

You're right, it is probably an empty gesture. But sometimes you have to be greatful for the right thing regardless of the motive. I'm sure the captains family doesn't care why he did it, just that he did.
Thanks Mrs.AL

Great post
He did the right thing, just took some time. And our seals- AMAZING SHARPSHOOTERS! I can't imagine sharpshooting out on the open water with little margin of error. I was wondering when we'd send them in. Glad the captain made it out okay. But you are right. If he'd not have okay'd the rescue and paid, he'd have been criticized by all.

getting the captain back. The wrong thing, not having a working set of cojones to go back in there and wipe the pirates and all their possessions off the face of the earth.
It took me a while to see why God always wiped out the evildoers in the OT. It was because if evil is left to fester unchecked, it continues to breed more evil. Take care of it now, or let it come back to haunt you later. Same with the death penalty.
There isn't a person around that believes any of these pirates are innocent. In fact, there are four more ships and sixty more hostages taken in the past two days.

It's not relevant wether they are innocent or guilty, there will always be some liberal that will defend them. It's all about "Fuzzy Bunnies" feeling good. It doesn't matter if it's right or wrong, moral or immoral, just if they feel good. So a few of them can get together and sing kum by ya and talk about how evil freedom and liberty is.

As a teacher
I had to contend with the self-esteem crapola. The students NEEDED to feel good about themselves. Well, as usual, I incurred the wrath of them all when I taught that actions PREceeded the self-esteem. Do something to achieve and one would then, justifiably, feel good and proud.
Needless to say, I didn't last long in the teaching community. So, I know all too well, the fuzzy, feely, nonsense. I respect the here's a problem, let's solve it and move on mentality.
Let's get a real solution to the piracy problem. Arm ships, bomb them all, but Kumba ya, ain't gonna do it.
