No doubt

there are people who liked or loved Michael Jackson, but normal people don't like kids in 'that' way, whether acted on or not.
Lots of real talent and totaly wasted.

Gar Swaffar

I'm not arguing with that. I just wanted to write about the actual things that I knew about him firsthand. The media storm takes care of itself.

I liked the Jacksons but when he did his first "transformation" into a Diana Ross look-alike the weird started getting in the way. I will however acknowledge that nobody is all bad all the time.

In fact, I would love to have the opportunity to write something similar about Nancy Pelosi or Henry Waxman.

I think Glen Beck got it right Friday when he said he was happy for Jackson because he thinks that Michael is happier now.

Happier now? Some sins are harder to atone for than others. I just wanted to put my thoughts on it down. I've been working on my book and its burned me out on blogging. Blogging is like a rough draft that is just put out there without much tinkering. I reread and correct spelling and words used incorrectly but I dont get into all the style and sentence-structure issues. I think the Climate Catastrophe Bill that just passed the house might get me to do a post. Or health care. I do think Barry is in an irreversible downward spiral. Unfortunately he's done a huge amount of damage already.

A book! Good for you!

Summer is always hard on blogging. There are just too many distractions, not to mention the endless "honey do's".

Obama may have figured out how to negate the blogosphere: Do so many bad things so fast that nobody can keep up. LOL!

Reading your article, I am amazed at the differences in your life and my life. We are close to the same age; but my "field of reference" is so radically different from yours as to almost make me think that I come from a "parallel universe". (And I now have a better idea why they call it "La-La" Land after reading your article.)

That aside, I do feel sorry for Michael Jackson. (And I am always careful of what I wish for.) I met Elvis just after he bought Graceland. My parents and my 2 sisters had driven to Memphis; and on the way home Dad just decided to see the place. Elvis was there. We talked. He appeared to be nothing more than a "country boy".

Fame and Fortune. These have been the downfall of many people. It "killed" Elvis and Michael. It will "kill" more.

Perhaps that is why I like being a "ghost", unknown except by my friends and kin-folk.

What's your book about?

Wow skep,

what an amazing story! I was never really a fan of Michael Jackson, like his Jackson 5 stuff but that's about it. He will be missed, but I'm not going to do an editorial cartoon about it.
I do however have movie reviews if you would like to see them and please let us know what the book is about.

Ghost And Keys

Watching the scramble over the designer children that Michael purchased has made my hackles rise. The whole racial transvestite aspect of this. I might have personally benefited from his good side but his bad side was beyond bad and that's pretty hard to ignore. those poor children.

My Book

My book is called 'Sin City High' and its a story about a high school dope dealer in Las Vegas in the 1960's. It takes place against the background of the whole country falling to pieces. It starts in late 1966 when two kids read an interview in Playboy by Timothy Leary and hotwire a car to drive down to LA to the Sunset Strip to buy some LSD and ends in a juvenile detention cell the night of Nixon's election. The 'hero' is swept up in the amorality of the times but starts to realize that actions have consequences. He's torn between the need to be 'cool' and down with the struggle and the inhumanity of some of the things his choices lead him to. I might post a chapter or two...definitely not on Townhall where it wouldnt pass scrutiny for language. Also, I worry that some of the parts, especially the incidents that deal with homosexuality and abortion will get me in BIG trouble with both sides of those particular issues. Its pretty graphic, as the subject material would suggest. Las Vegas was way ahead of the country in those days in terms of divorce and because a large proportion of the kids lived with single parents who worked all kinds of different shifts, and in some cases were prostitutes or criminals themselves, the scope for misbehavior was a lot wider than in most places. These characters are pretty hard-core and there are scenes of graphic violence and sex. People take LOTS of drugs, and not just the hippies and street people. Its the first book of three. The character I've created leaves home in the second book and lives by hitchhiking and panhandling and eventually ends up in a commune in New Mexico and the story is continued in the third book if I ever get that far.

Nice Tribute

There are always two sides to every story, Skep, as you know. Thanks for sharing your first hand experience! So many of us cannot relate to that lifestyle! Michael was a tormented soul.

You are writing a book!!!! Sign me up for a copy! Autographed, of course!

Thanks for sharing a story with the facts.

I wish the news would just be quiet for awhile until they get some facts.

I liked some of his music, but I was not a die hard fan. I was ready to vomit the other day when all over the tv was the fact he was not the father and all that stuff. Those kids are old enough to turn on the tv. Good grief. Give them some time to digest.

Check you out with the book. Good job!

Can't wait to read the book, sounds like a page turner. I did not know you worked for Nickelodeon, that was the defining network of my childhood!
Though now I'm more into Cartoon Network (can you say [Adult Swim]?) but still I've always kind of envied animators.

You've seen some great singers! I thought MJ's later life was iffy, but his youth and especially the 80's he seemed at his peak. He had an amazing voice and wicked dance moves that are impossible to replicate. Hope your book goes well!

New article at my site. Stop by if you get a chance.

Good luck with the book, man! If you decide to preview it drop me a link.
