Hunter/Santorum 2008
I hope the Republican primary voters are not sheep or we end up with McCain/Giuliani/Romney. The power brokers in the party want an open borders/pro-amnesty candidate (Mel Martinez' job is to see to that). We need to reject all of them for various other reasons, but especially on border security and illegal aliens. I won't vote for any of them. Democrat-lite I've heard it called, quite apt I think. Destination is the same, the only difference is the speed we get there.

While true, a successful conservative candidate while have to corrale the various tribes, 2008 is not the life or death of conservatism but rather of the GOP. It is hard to label the November GOP losses as a lose to conservatives because most of those losses were to more conservative Blue Dogs. The successful conservative candidate will have to unite ALL conservatives including the Dems, like Reagan did and Bush 41 inherited but fumbled away. Victory doesn't require a GOP majority. If we have a conservative-dominated Congress again, it won't matter much whether it deals with Rudy Clinton or Hillary Giuliani. Of course, it would be so much better if the ruling elites of both parties stopped trying to legislate into the teeth of the majority of the voters.
