Huckabee helped Romney
If you look at the states that Huckabee won, McCain came in 2nd place. That means that Huck was actually keeping McCain from having an even bigger lead over Romney. The polling revealed that McCain was the 2nd choice of most of the Huckabee voters.
McCain has been doing effective advertising regarding his service in Vietnam. Some voters are not focusing on other issues and are listening to the media tell them that he is the only electable candidate. The media is your enemy and Huckabee actually helped Romney.

McCain would not be the second choice of social conservatives who want a federal marriage amendment (which most evangelical Huck supporters want.)
I'd say 70% - 80% of the evangelical vote boils down to social issues such as pro-life and pro-marriage-amendment. On those issues, Huck is 2 for 2; Romney is 2 for 2; and McCain is 1 for 2.
I don't buy into the rhetoric that McCain is really the second choice of Huck supporters (especially when it comes down to issues.) Evangelicals may claim that McCain is their second choice as to not vote for the mormon...but ultimately - if Huck wasn't there, I'd wager far more evangelicals would ultimately cast aside their differences with mormons and vote on the issues instead of voting for McCain.
