Historic--Yes..but..

You are right, this is a historic event. And you are right that President Obama will do what he believes to be right for America. But what he believes to be right for America is formed by his own World-View, his own political philosophy, and his own race-based biases.

His World-View is Marxist. Being afraid to admit that publicly, he will say it is Progressive. Which informs me that he is a political coward.

His political philosophy informs him that a major omission of the Constitution is that it merely outlines what the Government cannot do to the citizenry but fails to provide what the Government MUST-DO-FOR the citizenry. Which informs me that he understands that all of the current entitlement programs are un-Constitutional. Yet he not only continues to support those programs which he said are not Constitutional, and he promises to deliver more of the same. Which informs me that he has no respect for the Constitution, which he will soon take an oath to uphold. Can I serious depend upon him to uphold and defend that which he holds in contempt?

To the extent that President Obama determines himself and his office to protect our nation from our enemies. I wish him the greatest of success. For all the rest of his agenda I prefer that he fail as miserably as did President Jimmy Carter. The historical significance of his Presidency notwithstanding.

To Stephen ...

You make several valid points. And President Obama will begin his new job with all of the beliefs that you reference. But he will also be faced with the reality that he is no longer one of many as he was in his years in state and federal legislature. He is now one of ... one. And that, in my estimation, has always been a tempering thing for a President.

In my lifetime only President James Earl Carter's term is seen by most reasoned observers as an almost utter failure in both domestic and foreign policy. And this can be said to have been principally caused by his having been politically inept and a monumentally bad choice by the Democratic Party. Who thought that they could throw just ANYBODY at the American people after Watergate.

President Obama does not appear to be politically inept. At least as far as getting himself elected to office is concerned. However, his voting record shows a disturbing lack of participation. With many votes in the Illinois legislature and the U.S. Senate of "present".

As President he not only has to be present. He has to be in the front and in charge all of the time.

The country has entrusted him with a lot. My hope is that he'll not abuse that trust for his own aims or, far worse, for the aims of people such as Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi. Their aims are, for the most part, poison to a representative republic.

To Libertyhound

I believe that you and I share the same hopes for the future of our country. And I agree with you in hoping that President Obama will not abuse the trust that as been bestowed upon him. I just have little reason to believe that such hope is well founded.

While he is not politically inept, he is as I said previously, a political coward. TO Wit: His "present" votes.

Frankly, I don't think that Obama's personal aims for this country are that much worse than those of Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi. Their aims are to fundamentally change American Government. Not just change the way the governments works--but to change the form of government itself. It is their goal to poison the representative republic. A goal President Obama has in common with them.

Stephen,
