The Only Conservative Choice: Hunter for President '08

Here we go with "electable" again
There are TEN MONTHS before the first primary. The elections are almost TWO YEARS away. That is an eternity in politics. It took a virtual unknown named Clinton who was introduced to America on the cover of a major national newsweekly with "Liar!" splashed across his picture less than that to become "electable". What exactly do you people want? Even an unknown named Dr. Steech could be made electable over that time.

Duncan Hunter
Just how "electable" was Jimmy Carter in 1976? Absolutely no one, outside of Georgia, had ever heard of him...and at that time, there were a lot of Dems better known, i.e Frank Church, Jerry Brown, "Scoop" Jackson, Birch Bayh, Sargent Shriver, & Mo Udall, all of which had better name recognition.
This is exactly why we, in the blogosphere, need to get busy. We can't just sit by and let the party hacks impose who they want on us (remember Dole?). There has to be a "grassroots" ground- swell for someone who will uphold and fight for the principles we hold sacred.

If all the people who "like" Duncan would get off their butts and work for, and vote for the man, instead of wasting their time looking for someone "electable", he would be elected!

Dr Steech: financing your campaign
Haven't you ever heard of the miracle of compounding interest? Another reason why time is on our side.
But seriously, your arguments just speak the empty language of surrender. We are talking about putting a name on the ballot and then voting for him. That makes him electable. Not very complicated. There is no such thing as "unelectable". Truman lost in a landslide in 1948 until the vote was actually counted and oops! he won. Being "unelectable" is the weakest and most frivolest argument one can make in a democracy. I can list example after example proving it. Remember Jesse Ventura? Even Jon Kary almost won! No point risking injuries in the NFL playoffs, everyone agrees the San Diego Chargers are hands down the best team in the league. That's why they play the games and why they hold elections.

About Medved
He is wrong. Reagan was not "anointed". The big machine had already annointed Bush for 1980 until Reagan challenged the machine's penchant for controlling who control's the microphone in Nashua NH. "I paid for that microphone Mr. Green!" Same can be said for Bill Clinton in 1992. Both parties think they have made their parties Reagan and Clinton proof. The globalist, one-world, money people think they have it under control and will place a liberal democrat on the ballot for both parties. If you aren't willing to fight for what you believe in RIGHT NOW, when exactly do you think your voice will be heard? The Blue Dogs who won in 11/06 are giving the Democrats a royal pain:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/02/24/AR2007022401420.html
Why can't the so-called party of conservatives follow their example? We are winning! Let's act like it!

Newt
Newt's got the name recognition, and has one of the better minds out there, with great conservative credentials,but...an awful lot of baggage. He's hated maybe even more than W in the MSM, so it may be difficult to pick up any of the indy vote at all...Also, if he continues to play this game of waiting till the Fall, he'll have been passed by.

Straw poll in S.C. tonight
Duncan Hunter 2nd behind Rudy! There are many Republican voters who do not want what the money players want. We do not want the NAU. We do not want open borders. We CAN make it happen. All it takes is casting ballots in primaries. And not being herded like sheep to slaughter by nominating a New York liberal who is on board the cheap labor express.

Anything can happen
this year...I think conservatives are totally fed up with the direction the party's been going, and believe that's why we lost so badly in November...This is the kind of year when strange things can happen; and I believe it's just possible that this may be the year when we reach outside of the predictable. Rudy's a great guy, and did an outstanding job in NY, but I still think the liberal social agenda will eventually trip him up. Romney comes off (at least to me) as a flip-flopper, and I just can't seem to get past that. McCain is a no-go. Period. Tancredo is a one issue person (and he's got a really cheesy website). Newt's got issues, and Santorum won't run. I think Hunter may be the only chance we've got to put a conservative Republican in the White House. So, unless Santorum changes his mind, I'm with Hunter all the way!

Hunter
Duncan Hunter can't force the media to cover him, but he can use this South Carolina poll to springboard volunteers into action in the early primary states. If he uses bloggers and individuals to articulate and spread his conservative message, the more support he will garner. Electability is something you can develop, especially when there is such an early run-up to the primaries this election.

Exactly, wil!
Winning guarantees coverage; it snowballs. If he continues to do well in the caucuses and straw polls, and carry that over to a couple of early primary wins, that will generate more media coverage and better fund-raising...we bloggers just need to keep busy and keep his name out there!

Campaign
During the primary season support whoever you think is best, "pure" conservative, moderate, Rudy, Newt, Hunter, McCain, but when the election comes around we should support the nominee.
If you/we join the "teach them a lesson" "not pure enough" because the right person was not nominated crowd then we will have someone like Hillary, Obama, or another socialist nominating judges to the Supreme Court, and directing the War against Islamic terror.
Look at the House and Senate now and imagine with bigger majorities and the left wingers in the White House.
Try to get your person nominated, but you should not stay home because they are not nominated.

Hi, Jessica
I don't think I said anything about staying home if Hunter doesn't win; I just think a lot of us are sick and tired of having pre-determined nominees thrust upon us by the party power brokers. Look, you can't tell me that Rudy, with his liberal social ideas, is the double-digit front runner in the Republican party within 24 hours of his announcement! Yet that's exactly what happened...John McCain was the "heir-apparent", until he irritated a lot of important party people. This is the kind of nonsense that has to stop, or a conservative will never, ever get the nomination, and we will continue to be subjected to a choice between liberal-crazy or liberal-lite in each and every general election. That's not a choice I want; do you?

No I don't
I don't want someone nominated because it's "their turn."
But we must be prepared to fight for who we want during the primaries, then get out and campaign and support the nominee.
This 2006 election we supposedly had some sit it out causing some Republican losses. This was the point of my comment, not to infer that you mentioned that.
But we should not take our ball and go home because our guy is not nominated.

Agreed!
It's just that some of these guys are going to be a lot easier to support than others! My point is that we've somehow got to fix the nomination system. I'm not really sure how to do that, except throught some sort of massive voter education drive by folks like you and me on our PC's, to somehow try to offset the "spin" that comes out of the RNC. I know they (RNC) mean well, but they're so concerned about maintaining a majority that they pay no attention as to just who comprises that majority. That's exactly how we get the stiffs that end up losing the majority that we worked so hard to get in the first place! Whew! But how do you really feel, Rubberduck?:-)

RNC
The RNC with Mel Martinez as Chairman will attempt to herd us like sheep to nominate someone who shares their pro-amnesty/cheap labor views. My hope is that people will show some independence and vote for Hunter.
Republican voters still can decide this. We can nominate Duncan Hunter. Money only buys elections when people act like sheep. If 80% are indeed seeking a conservative, they can nominate one. The money players won't like it and are trying to convince us only Rudy, Romney, or McCain can win. Hogwash. 49% of people will never vote for Hillary. Only 60% voted last time and turnout was the difference. My belief is Rudy would push turnout down. There might even be a third party, splitting the vote. Give Americans a chance to vote for a candidate who WILL secure the border and watch what happens to turnout. Americans want their government to fulfill it's most basic responsibility.

I thoroughly agree with you, Virginia...but it's also more than just the Presidency. We also really need to get to work on Congress. There's no way that your guy, George Allen should have lost his seat, nor Rick Santorum. And there's no way we should still have slugs like Arlen Spector in the Senate with an "R" after his name! Same with Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe! I have a real problem with people like Hugh Hewitt (though I love the guy) who seem to think that majority means everything. Sure, it's nice to have, unless a whole bunch of your so-called majority end up siding with the other guys more often than not...then what good is it?
