Obama's America - Past Tense Inspiration?

Obama's America

Everything Obama has to say about this country is either doom and gloom or, as he's very fond of saying, we're nothing but a mean and devisive country that does nothing but perpetuate evil throughout the world. What a motivating philosophy! When one loathes their own country to such a degree, why strive to be its leader? America is still revered in many countries, though maybe not the UN, but is his idea of making us more repsected involve making us into something that more closely resembles those that currently don't?

Inspiring?

Hardly... great essay!

Deadly accurate, but no suprise, liberals hate America, they have to. It is in their hate and spreading of hate that they find the power to change it to their whim.

I write about this in my article "Sun tzu & the Culture War Part II America" (yeah shamelss plug)

Keep the faith!

Dan - America's inspiration

Your question is right on, and wouldn't it be interesting to hear Obama answer it? (After we get through the "let me be clear's" and "er's and um's", that is. It seems to me that there is a cognitive gap in the liberal mindset of "what it is that makes America great" and "what they want to do to America". It always makes me ask my perpetual question: "What is WRONG with people?" (It's a rhetorical question).

Right Brainer - inspiring comments

Thanks for stopping by - and for the words of encouragement...I am hopping off my blog and going to find your article. I am interested in the culture rift in America, and have witnessed it from a unique point of view - the classroom - for the past 30 years. Can you believe I came out of that a conservative?
I'll never lose the faith - thanks for yours!

Cindy

This is the Liberal Socialist mantra; America is bad, capitalism is bad, and only a diverse socialist humanist place where the rich share the wealth will bring peace, love hope and change to this forsaken land. It's mind numbing and disheartening at times. But you're among like minded friends, and welcome to TH!

I appreciate your response - your comments make me wonder: How did the liberal rich GET rich in the first place?! I mean, after using the American capitalist system to make tons of cash (I am still working on that part...not there, yet), does one somehow feel a uncontrollable urge to be forced to give that money to the government, and let the government dole it out? Why wouldn't these wealthy liberal-minded folks decide they would like to actually "share" it - by giving it to who or what they choose? It is one of the conundrums I ponder...
I totally understand the mindset, just wonder how they got from one place (willing to make the cash in the first place) to the other (willing to let someone take it from them).
Thanks for checking out my blog!

a liberal is a liberal is a liberal

Cindy,

There's a huge buncha Americans who vote for liberals, not because they themselves are liberals, but because they vote for a living. In my piece on "The lenses . . . (revised)" on gumballs, I label them "gimmes".

There's also a cadre of Americans who vote for liberals because they themselves are liberals. They may work as hard and smart as you or I and, as result, have great success in the private-sector marketplace. However, since they believe in equality, they feel guilty about their success and others' lack of it. They FEEL (NOT think) that those others must have lacked opportunity, thus had lower outcomes.

Obviously they're wrong. Poverty -- except for the very very few with serious disabilities -- is a behavioral disease. Stupid decisions and actions lead to suboptimal outcomes, not lack of opportunity.

You are so right, Cindy.

His last line said it all; this guy who doesn't participate in saying the pledge of allegience, put his hand over his heart when the pledge is said or God Bless America is sung; who only wears our flag pin because it's politically expedient, and who has made it clear more than once, even when over seas, that he doesn't like America. Neither does his wife. He is, in my opinion, a traitor to all that America stands for. The idea that he could become our next president is more than I can stand. If he wins, I don't know what I'll do with my angry self.

Great post Cindy.

I'm glad you brought this up.

The media has created this myth that we are now hated by the world and Obama can save us.

The Olympics were a very good example, thanks for reminding us of the applause that the American athletes received.

Excellent post. I'll be back.

Sandra Wise

I'm glad you came by - I enjoyed your Word to the Wise as well.
I find myself stubbornly reminding myself and others (and glady!) that just because this silly story about the un-American feelings the world supposedly has toward us is repeated ad nauseum...we DO NOT need to believe it. The ones who do feel that way are (guess what?) our enemies!
People all over the world crave our country's ideals and freedom, and we need to keep believing in ourselves.
Here's to drowning out the white noise!
Thanks again.

Cindy...

Awesome post...

If America is such a bad place, why isn't he running for president of Kenya?

The Chasm Between The Candidates

This is a great post, and a great new blog you're managing as well. You're exactly right regarding the two opposite ways of looking at America - Obama's loathing for everything good about America, and McCain's belief in the basic goodness of America's founding principles. Mr. McCain is not a perfect candidate, but I find him far and away the objectively preferable one.

I'd never thought of your example of how we were received at the Olympics as evidence of how the world sees us. I've cited many times that, were America as despicable a nation as our critics would have us believe, then why are so many people coming here - both legally and illegally? Your example of the Olympics is wonderful, and I will credit you when I use it myself (unlike some people, I have no stomach for plagiarizing).

I used to love Mr. Reagan's cheery optimism about America. Perhaps it's old-fashioned, but nonetheless, I miss that.

By the way, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your outstanding writing; sadly, I deal all too frequently with post-moderns who seem to live in deathly fear that, were they ever to use their shift key or anything approaching grammar, they would lose their panache of street credibility. I once very nearly purchased a shirt that proclaimed "I AM THE ENGLISH MAJOR ABOUT WHOM YOUR MOTHER WARNED YOU." I only changed my mind because I knew how frequently I would have to explain the message. Sigh.

With your permission, I would like to add you to my blogroll; you visited me over at STAND ( stand.townhall.com ) on my post "I Am John Galt," and anyone who appreciates Ayn Rand deserves my support. I also write at the Alhambra Bible Fellowship ( alhbible.wordpress.com ), and you would be welcome at both of my blogs anytime.

Welcome to the blogosphere; you've already gotten off to a wonderful start, and I can't wait to read more.

Keith Arnold

My sincere appreciation for your compliments on my writing - I do try. No promises that it will always be perfect, but I do promise that I will always make my best effort.
I also agree that some wonderful Reagan optimism would be very welcome right now - so forgive me if I set about reminding people of who we really are!
Go ahead and make and/or wear your grammatically correct t-shirt - I'd get a great laugh reading that while standing in the Starbuck's line!
Fight the good fight!

On the good fight

Amen!

Optimism and active involvement is the best thing we can do.

Libs win when Americans get down, We need to lift up the populace, remind them that this is the greatest nation ever. Get involved, stay involved, convert people to our cause.

Keep the Faith!

Ps - new post up
