True Education...Denied

In the Final Analysis
I think your analysis in the end is correct: We have not taught our children how to think but only to recite. Truly this it he greatest travesty in America today. Certainly we if taught our children to explore and examine, we would need not be so worried about such as one-sided teaching (macro-evolution being the prime example).
The exact philosophical causes you cite, however, I'm not so certain are on the mark. For instance, Modernism considered truth only that which could be proven with absolute certainty. Thus, Modernism itself would only teach children that which "we knew without a doubt to be truth." This in itself, I'm sure, lead children to be less eager to explore truth claims made by their educators because all the educated considered it unassailably true; all who opposed such thing were "unelightened."
Post-Modernism, on the other hand, has lead many to deny that truth claims exist AT ALL. This, also has lead students away from a desire to seek out truth because they are taught the "truth" that there is no truth. The travesty in all this, is that in both instances children have grown into adults who do not have the tools nor desire to actively engage in critical thought. And again, in the final analysis, you are exactly correct.

The problem
In my mind, the reason that conservatives have not pursued the reformation of flawed philosophical and worldview mindsets is because that task is so difficult. It is much easier to attack blatant manifestations of the bad worldview than to attack it at its root. Thinking is difficult and most people haven't been trained in it or practiced it. But, we need to press on despite the difficulty. Thanks for the post, I am sure it took some effort.
