Comment on: To Make The Truth Known

It's Starting Already: Obama's Holiday Tree

Fact check

Please be sure to check your facts. Unless you can verify stories, don't put them out.

I saw this and got flbbergasted but since have found out it's not true. What is the source for this? If it is in fact true but has been hushed, I'd like to know that as well. But miss information is really bad.

Obama Holiday Tree

Patriot Pastor,

Are you really a Christian Pastor? I have to wonder since you are so judgmental ("I have to wonder about this" - whether Obama is a Christian as he professes) and the fact that you are so quick to spread an untrue rumor.

My Bible has passages about being judgmental and telling the truth. Also, what are your fruits? The ones you display in this statement are not Christ-like, but I doubt if that was your purpose.

Pagan Holiday

Being a christian you should know that the holiday Christmas originates from pagan beliefs. Also, the day of Christs birth cannot be ascertained from the Bible or from any other source. If you were a TRUE Christian you wouldn't celebrate Christmas at all for this simple reason, IT IS PAGAN!

Pagan:
1)one who has little or no religion and who delights in sensual pleasures and material goods : an irreligious or hedonistic person.
2)a follower of a polytheistic religion (as in ancient Rome)

Polytheistic:
1)belief in or worship of more than one god

I believe that goes against the commandments.

To all my commenters

First, I heard this story on the news, that is my source. Second, where do you get your information that it is not true?
Yes, I am a Christian pastor and I am merely doing what a pastor or prophet of the OT does, expose the lies of our society and put them in the light of Scripture. How do you see me as judgmental? Today the most used passage is "Judge not..." rather than the thousands of passages dealing with righteousness and holiness. Try reading Charles Spurgeon, Charles Finney, or Jonathan Edwards' sermon "Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God" and you would probably call them judgmental as well. Our nation is in desperate times and SOMOEONE has to cry out the call for repentance. I know all the facts about Christmas, but this is when WE celebrate the birth of our Savior. Blessings on you all.

Pastor...

I would challenge you to do some critical research on Mr. Finney. He does not mix well with men like Spurgeon and Edwards. It is Nettleton that belongs in their company.

Thanks for taking a stand on the Scriptures and for calling for repentance. Let us pray for America like Daniel prayed in Daniel 9.

Another Phony Internet Rumor

There are literally thousands of rumors like this floating around on the Internet every single day. There are several good debunker sites, such as Snopes.com, factcheck, org, truthorfiction.com, and of course you can always search on Google.

This rumor is false; the White House press announcements specifically refer to "Christmas trees", and Mrs. Obama's press secretary said the same thing when she was sent an email message asking about this rumor.

The Scriptures make perfectly clear God's view of gossip, and repeating this kind of idle rumor is definitely NOT what a Christian pastor ought to be doing. I can name a half-dozen anti-gossip Bible verses right now; can you name a single verse that supports spreading rumors?

Valiant for truth

I appreciate your kind words but I must disagree with you on Mr. Finney. Have you read his sermons or systematic theology? He makes a good case against Calvinism and this runs counter with Spurgeon and others who hold to this theology. I find great flaws in Calvinism and it does not stand the test of Scripture. How can God hold man accountable for his sins and yet by predestination he is condemned as unredeemable. How can God be just and not allow some to come to faith and others guranteed a spot?
I would be happy to dialogue with you on the topic.

George

I did not get this from the internet but from the news on radio. It very well could be false since many news services get things wrong. I very carefully screen all the things I print but sometimes I get wrong information from what should be reliable.
As for Snopes.com they are not very reliable since during the election they were caught trying to falsify some stories that were true. It is run by some very liberal leaning folks and so I no longer trust them. Truthorfiction is very reliable, so far. I hope that the DC tree is truly a Christmas tree. It has been this for many years. Blessings to you.

This isn't true!

This is not a true story - it is an internet rumor! Please delete this story as it is totally false. The traditional Christmas Tree will remain at the White House. http://www.factcheck.org/2009/10/holiday-tree-hooey/

Stephanie

I heard it on the news and admitted earlier that it may not be true. I will gladly delete it.
