My only solution has been the invention of the DVR so I can pause the program during the program to listen to the question. Again, not a great solution, but better than it was.

I remember when our five sons were learning how to use the toilet early on,my wife bought one of those padded toilet seat covers that would not stay up unless you held the seat up. no class needed,no bitching either. The question answer period concept during commercials is not an option with my lovely better half, if it needs to be said it needs to be said now, and eye contact with her is also mandatory,no sunglasses allowed.

Back when there....

After sitting a couple times on a seat that had been peed on, the future ex-Mrs. o'furniture decided it was better if I moved it out of the way....and she didn't mind putting it down herself nearly as much as she thought.
My advice.....hose that sucker down a few times.....

When one of our sons peed on the seat at night and my wife went in later to use the toilet, didn't turn on the light and sat down on a wet seat is when said cushioned seat was purchased but the light went on in the bathroom when she went in at night too. That particular son was left on the back deck in -10 degree temps to make sure he understood what my wife meant, just kidding about leaving him out on the deck.

was directed by the Great John Ford. There's a scene between Widmark & Stewart sitting in a river bank talking that's over 4-minutes long and no camera cutting. NO director these days has the confidence to pull that off.
I loved "Legends of the Fall", too. Kind of haunting. It was filmed, almost entirely in British Columbia. I loved the ambush they pull on the evil forces after Tristan's(Brad Pitt) Indian wife is killed.
And the old Indian's Voice-Over narration...His last line at the close about Tristan's end with the bear, as an old man: "It was a good death."
Love it!

Yeah....I think....
....most of us identify with Tristan, but in real life, we play the part of all three sons some time.
There is a scene toward the beginning that is a perfect example of how I view God, and the way He thinks of us. Tristan (as a boy) has just gone out and poked the proverbial grizzly with a stick, and after the chase, he cuts off a claw when the bear swings at him.
The Indian finds the claw and pats him on the back. The father tells the boy he's a damn fool, but the look of pride on his face says something entirely different.
Whenever I think I have ticked off God for the last time and He'll never want anything to do with me again....I remember that look.....and know what unconditional love is. Thank God He gave us Anthony Hopkins.....

Movies I've never seen
Sorry guys, I guess I'm not much of a movie guy - Never saw "Legends of the Fall", but heard it was good. Brad Pitt, right? I did see "A River Runs Through It" - one of my favorites.
That one had some meaning to me because I grew up out in that area, and fly fishing was a big part of our familiy life. I moved East and my brothers stayed there. We still get together at least annually and do some fishing but they have trouble understanding how I'd ever leave. I married a Mainiac - that was the start.
I would love to return, but have been here 25 years, 4 of 5 of my kids live here with their families. My bride is totally devoted to the grandkids who live nearby, as am I. While I'd like to get a summer place out there, I've pretty well resigned myself that I'll be here permanently. While that's a bit unfortunate, believe me, there's worse places to be stuck than northern New England. It's also a beautiful part of a beautiful country.

We stayed overnight, but he was having a pretty hard time, so we skedaddled next day. We did see a big bear near our site (between me and the guns.....that'll never happen again), but we saw more bears than fish.
I did get to drive through the Owens Valley, though, and coming back early meant more quality time with the China doll (the new one), so it wasn't all bad......

Ya know, the kind that are legend between my ears? They always say,"I live to serve the Master. Tee-Hee." and, the always popular,"Pweasse don't hurt me. Teee-heee." Hey, we all have our dreams!
There's a great old place in Bridgeport for eating good steaks, etc, but can't remember its name. In an old house type building. The 'Sportsman's Lodge' has been there forever, of course. I have a treasured pic of Dad fly fishing in the Walker River down from the Reservoir a few miles.

She's sweet, affectionate, smart, pretty, and very nicely put together. She's a little quiet, but doens't take a lot of crap without giving it back..... I may be in trouble here.....
I am starting to think there is a conspiracy afoot to keep me from fishing. I'm tempted to run down to the local Big 5 and buy a $2 dropline. I live a mile from the ocean, so it would be easy to test my theory. I still have plenty of vacation time and plenty of Summer left, so we'll see....

I believe in Miracles. I AM one. God just reached down--through a Texican Lady friend--and said:"Sooooooooo...Had enough??"

Glad to hear you know where the credit belongs, bud....
One question: Ever said thanks? Ever asked Him why He bailed you out and what plans He might have had for you.....? (OK, that's 2 questions)
I've been a little busy myself....taking you advice (exploring China). Women are no different anywhere in the world: one day they seem like part of your clothing, next they act like they're doing you a favor to talk to you....but it's 90 % to the good so far....

Paddy...YEP, Every Day For Just About
22-years. Heard an Old Timer, who'd been sober about 40-years when I was in my first year, say that,"Miracles happen without my permission." I identified with it then and do many years later.
My favorite prayer by an Old Timer was simplicity itself. In the morning he'd pray,"Whatever"...and at night, just before sleep, he'd pray,"Enough." Jack P. died a few years ago with 55-years.
In the a.m., I read a little daily meditation book called,"Touchstones" and then say the Thomas More prayer..."Thank You for all You've given me; For all You've taken away; For all I now have." And I pray a little Neo rewrite of my fellowship's 3rd Step this way:'Made a decision to turn my will, my lives, my being, ALL of me over to the care of You.'...And, finally, I say a little thing I composed somewhere in my first 3-years: 'I ask to Trust, Accept, Be Open, Be, Engage..in a centered, balanced, peaceful, productive day of soberiety. Let me remember this day is Yours, not mine. That You are the Center, not me.'
Nope, Paddy, I never ask Him why He saved my wretched life. But, I look at it as my DUTY to Engage It Fully. My late great sponsor, Jeff O'Connell, used to say that He doesn't make Junk....and that He didn't pull me outta the ocean just to drop me in the sea.
Aren't you glad you axed?

You and Vpat don't see eye to eye on everything, but you have put it aside when you are here. Clarity is wound a lot tighter than you....some of us are just that way I guess....
I was hoping after his health thing he'd lighten up a little bit, but I guess he's just wired that way.
I will definitely still be his comrade-in-arms on the main blog....

Paddy was kind enough to direct me here. Movies, baseball, and so much more!
Separate bathrooms. Avoids many potential conflicts.
My sister lives in Bozeman. If it wasn't so cold in the winter, I'd consider it. Beautiful country.
My escape plan is currently WV if VA keeps being over run with idiot liberals and illegal aliens. Things are looking up, McDonnell has a 14 point lead over the Dummycrat, the Lt. Gov. and AG races are both leaning GOP as well.
Last weekend we went out shooting with the old Russian Mosin-Nagant rifles. Used cinder blocks for targets. What a blast, literally. The 7.62x54R round causes them to explode in a cloud of dust. Mosin's can still be had for less than $100.00 and tin of surplus ammo is under $90.00. For under $200 you can have a piece of history that can take down any North American game animal or a car. The steel core bullets punch through steel plate like it was butter.

I know what you mean. I have to limit myself to 15 to 20 rounds or I'm sore for a week.
We took the .22's and my 1911 so we'd have something less painful to shoot. I was hitting bowling pins at 75 yards with the 1911. Love that Para...

She's been out there working at Yellowstone summers and going to school. A second life sort of. She's 4 years older than me, I'm 49. After her husband died she moved out there and went back to school. Got her degree in history and is working on a master's. She also took photo's for a book about Yellowstone that was published recently.

OK Guys
I need to kick back and rub sauve in the wounds left by those G-D Yankees this week-end. I knew it could be bad, but that was worse than I could have imagined. Man, I hate those guys!
I was up at the lake all week-end and other than the boys disappointing me, it was a beautiful week-end. Nothing like the cry of loons while drifting off to sleep.
I'm off to the west coast later this week and will be at a 4 Yankee-Mariner games in Seattle. I'll get to root for my 2nd favorite team (whoever the Skankees are playing).
Good to see you're still kickin'. Good to see you here V-Pat. These guys were good enough to extend an invitation to this bitter white person who clings to my guns and my God.
It's a good place to hang out.
