BOB BARR AND THE ACLU

.....I know that the ACLU is unpopular with many Conservatives because of their origins and their support for Seperation of Church and State but they stick to their interpretation of the Constitution which is something that riles many Conservatives ...

.....I know that Barr had a good conservative record when he was in Congress and he is a member of the NRA and might get their endorsement if he is nominated by the Libertarians ...if he can get a seat at debates the way Perot did then he can be questioned about his thoughts on the ACLU ...

.....Without the exposure that a seat at the debates would give him, he will be ignored by the media and most likely have about as much success as Ron Paul did when he ran as a Libertarian ...

.....The ACLU did come to the defense of Rush Limbaugh when Florida illegally seized his medical records .....COLOSSUS

Which blog are we going to use

I thought I would check this one out since you listed the address but, it is not the same one as your underlined name links to. Ya got two blogs? Who is Norman?

baseballdoc

Excellent points. I'd like to believe that Barr's affiliation with the ACLU is not a problem, due to what I saw as his excellent service in the House. He explains his involvement in terms of his support for civil liberties, but then I wonder why he didn't hook up with the American Conservative Union, instead of the ACLU.

You seem well-informed on this point, so I wonder: Do you have any thoughts about that? I'd be grateful for your insights.

The ACLU's support for Limbaugh WAS a pleasant surprise, as well--not because I like him (even though I DO like him), but because they stood on principle even for someone they probably DIDN'T like.

Thanks for posting!

Hitchhiker

Sorry to learn that my name didn't hyperlink to this blog, but you're definitely in the right place.

After reading your post, I was naturally alarmed and check the link. It worked fine for me, so hopefully what you ran into was just a temporary technical glitch.

Please let me know if it happens again, and I'll let the folks at TH know.

Thanks!

Hitchiker

Sorry, I didn't answer your questions.

No, I only have one blog. To what blog were you directed? (I am VERY curious about that. Could be a problem, so PLEASE let me know. Thanks a lot.)

I am Norman. There's more about me in the "Biography" link on the blog homepage.

Please share your thoughts on the best third-party choice for Prez.

Cheers!

My Apologies

I guess I didn't make it clear when I posted the announcement of this blog in other blogs.

I had the link to here (Norman's Blogatorium) at the bottom of each post, but perhaps it wasn't always highlighted.

I am a guest blogger here, at Norman's invitation, and we hope to get the ball rolling on some serious discussion of what we can do now that the GOP has left us.

Bob Barr and the ACLU

From what I have learned, Bob Barr joined with the ACLU primarily in his concern for the protection for Fourth Amendment rights, and nothing else that I have seen.

Privacy issues in government data collection, and warrantless wiretap and email tap seem to be his bugbear. He wasn't calling for the shutdown of FISA, or prohibiting the government from spying on foreign communications.

I agree with him on these issues, so unless someone else has other information about his dealings with the ACLU, it's not a stumbling block for me in considering him.

Countryman

Thanks. That's most reassuring. I like Barr better than ever.

Conservatives

Hey guys, I've been hearing a lot about "Chuck Baldwin",....he may be running on the Constitution party ticket, and he sounds pretty good, though he's not as well known as Bob Barr.

I also have been concerned with Barrs' affiliation with ACLU,.....I absolutely despise that org and I think they are nothing but a shadowy "commie surrogate", and I don't trust their agenda.

I do like Barr, but my jury is still out on him?

Tazzmax

Thanks for the insights and observations.

Since you seem both to be knowledgeable and to have some strong opinions, please let me know if you'd like to become contributor to the Blogatorium. Just email me at normanloquendiATyahoo.com (@ symbol omitted to defeat SPAM crawlers), if you're interested.

Thanks again.

Thanks

Norm, for the offer,...I'll think about it and let you know later.

I'm not very "puter literate", and not a writer at all, but I do have strong feelings about how conservatives have been minimal-ized, and I really think it's time for a new party!

Tazzmax

Your opinions and insights will be most welcome, however you choose to share them.

The goal, of course, is to get a real discussion going about the best (i.e. most conservative) third-party guy or gal, and then to try to mobilize support for that person.

I'd be grateful if you'd keep letting us know what you think, particularly in re the pros and cons of the various third party options.

Thanks again.

(Hey, I meant to tell you that I love your screen name! Cheers!)

Third party

I also am sick of the GOP and looking to Bob Barr and others. It will take a huge effort to get these names out and get support. There is also the constitution party which has a runoff this month I believe. There are some very good candidates there too. We all need to unite if we are to get this govmt back on track.

Trying to keep my post brief. Will keep checking back. And good info - thanks

Norm.

Thanks for the compliment on my "moniker",..haha.

Believe it or not,...it came from my dog,..heehee, he's a heeler/Aussie mix and onery as th devil,...the wife calls him a "Tazzmanian devil",.....and his name is "Max",...so I decided to use that moniker "cause it's easy to remember! Ha.

I've used the same alias for 4 or 5 years now.

bobthebuilder

If anyone can fix it, you can!

(Sorry. I couldn't resist. I've been conditioned to hear that theme song in my sleep . . .)

I am 100% in agreement on the need for conservatives to discuss, debate, and decide on a viable third-party candidate.

Since this is intended as a real discussion, we read every comment and will regularly incorporate both the consensus and areas of disagreement of those who post here into our main blog entries.

Thanks for your comments!

Tazzmax

Thanks for the history of your online moniker.

I thought it was based on "Tazz to the max" as in the old "Tazz" of Bugs Bunny fame on an espresso drip. :-)

I like your story even better, though.

Cheers!

Constitution Party

I have also looked at the consttution party-mainly because I feel that overseas conflict with open borders is counter-productive!!

OOOPS

Sorry bout that. I am new to this.

Fastjack

I'm not sure I follow your argument; if the Constitution Party comes to power, we will have closed borders (it's in their platform); so the overseas conflict issue will be rendered moot, would it not?
I'd be happy to listen to more of your thoughts about the Constitution Party.
