The poor re-revisited and the new paradigm and "norm"

And Atlas shrugged

Great capsulization of Rand's thesis.

We Are in a Recession

One of the reasons my daughter is moving back to my home town is this very reason (economy of force and/or resources).

There is nothing that anyone can do about this for the immediate future. O'Vomit and the Dumbocrap Congress have "tipped" the entire country over the edge.

However, a Conservative US House could prevent the recession from becoming a full-blown depression (if the 2010 Midterm elections are a Ballot Revolution as I hope).

As somebody once said,

"who is John Galt?"

Rand was correct in many - not all - ways. IMO, her prescription for the America she painted (and now has come to pass) is the only one.

Take what you can, converted to real wealth, and drop out.

It is time for "Plan C." (Call it the "Peter Principle!"

Kinda hopin'

That you might pay my $900,000 share so I can maintain my lifestyle of the fabulously over taxed.

Two letters

GG, between the ballot and the bullet are only two letters.

I've never read Atlas Shrugged, BrianR,

and so cannot speak to her thesis or prescription, JT. I infer, JT, that your answer to the questions I posed is, "Take the props and exit stage right."

From where, Gray Ghost, would these

"conservatives" come? The only possible in-time-turnaround would come from an overwhelming influx by, and victory from, a mass of true conservatives with nads. I'm watching the horizon with my field glasses, and I see but a couple.

Rampant lawlessness in Washington, D.C.

Walter Williams recently wrote:

Look at the current debate over government involvement in health, business bailouts and stimulus packages. The debate centers around questions as whether such involvement is a good idea or a bad idea and whether one program is more costly than another. Those questions are entirely irrelevant to what should be debated, namely: Is such government involvement in our lives permissible under the U.S. Constitution?

That question is not part of the debate.

Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution grants Congress the power to tax and spend for the enumerated activities therein. Every American is duty bound to pay his share. Congress has neither constitution nor moral authority to take the earnings of one American for the benefit of another American.

IS THERE A WAY TO SUE THE SUPREME COURT?

It was an excellent piece, JT, by

Dr. Williams in a recent issue of Imprimus (Hillsdale College) and taken from a talk he gave aboard a Celebrity cruiseship in the Mediterranean this past Summer.

Help me here, Gar. GG?

I know that I'm an order of fries short of a Happy Meal, but what's GG?

Lots of stats

to back up the post, great work. I agree Unemployment must be higher than 15%. My former employer offered severence packages to most people they let go. If an individual accepts the package (usually 6 months), they cannot apply for unemployment after the package expires.

It has been my experience,

and is my opinion, that a huge number of "the poor" are "poor" by choice due to irresponsible expectations and lack of initiative/motivation. You're so right about their huge sense of entitlement; never looking to themselves for success, but to the C's to provide it for them. Some of them, if they applied their genius for milking the system, to actually working for a living, would acheive great things.

Good work, Pete.

BTW, Pete,

I think Gar was referring to Gray Ghost via GG.

Thanks, Bobbie, for the kudos.

I think that your assessment is historically correct. My reason, however, for this blogpost was that the paradigm has changed.

My son is one of the young best-and-brightest investment bankers in NYC. Barney Frank and Barack Obama can, and would not hesitate to, get him canned in a heartbeat. My doctor is brilliant, but may go belly-up in the next couple of years . . . solely because of the new fascism.

Tomorrow, I'll be the guest of a professor and his honors class to discuss the FairTax. I'll bet these very-bright young folks have no clue how their future prospects have changed.

Never a more accurate assessment of...

what's going on Pete. I have no computer as mine crashed badly so I'm using my son's wii. Not an acceptable alternate! It is all down to health care. They need a new "voluntary" enlistment program to replace the federal Socialist Security Act as that program is no longer viable with C "the tax paying public". A and B need need a way to scare or outright force C back onto the plantation. X has an army of support on the plantation, their support for the transformation is assured. Obama has declared a National Health emergency related to H1N1. That of course give's him powers to do what otherwise might seem impossible. We're very close now to game over.

It seems to me that a national sales tax as replacement to the current system scares A, B and X to death as it places the leverage to control tax rates and amount paid into the hands of the tax payer via their ability or desire to buy and sell in the marketplace. Consumers would be keenly aware of the effedt sales tax has on what they pay for goods as it is added at the POS. A and B can ill afford substantial power shifting losses in the 2010 elections as this time such a change away from their all important progressive tax scheme might become reality by or soon after 2012. Alas, I think they've got the 2010 elections covered. "liberty is irrelevant; the 2010 election is irrelevant; freedom to choose is irrelevant; free will is irrelevant: Resistance is futile, you (we) shall be assimilated".

Nice job, AfterShock, with a Wii of

commenting. Thanks for all of the extraordinarfy effort to weigh in after you computer's demise.

Thanks (Xie xie) for the kudos, Mr

Bushmills. Especially welcome because of the sender.

DrPete

CREATING victims is ALL that keeps the Democratic Party VIABLE! If EVERYONE kept the view of life they when 18, the GOP would CEASE to exist within a generation.

Excellent stats

What is so frustrating is that we who have a Judeo-Christian understanding know we must aid the poor but just who are the poor in this nation? People with Vios TV's, cars , IPODS, skate boards et al? People who are in gangs? And who are unemployed? The lazy, the in betweeners, yutes of America??? And remember, I do, the term, 'working or deserving poor'? How do we give in charity and then see our taxes wasted in programs that just foster more dependence? Thanks for the update. Drop by my friend.

dr. pete

Most excellent stats and read.

So much is changing due to the decisions of our government in this economic system that it astounds me. Our national debt is rising every day and the dollar value decreasing. I pray we can reverse that trend someday.

I give, FinalRac, of my treasure and

my time willingly, particularly to children who aren't being parented, who lack role models. I resent every penny of the taxes that rob Pete to pay Paul, regardless of who Paul is.

I think, Eric, that your wish will be

granted . . . someday . . . after the collapse of America and after the anarchy and the fascist oligarchy following and the revolution after that.

You Are SO Old Fashioned!

Its not what can you do to avoid becoming poor, its learning to be OK with being poor. All you need is cable TV, a Gameboy, Food Stamps, a frosty 40oz and legal marijuana and being poor doesnt turn out to be that bad. And the medical care is gratis! In Cockney rhyming slang you're 'On the rock and roll!' (the dole).Let the working stiffs foot the bill and put your feet up Holmes!

I like it, Skep41, a lot!

I'm thinkin' that I have a wide-screen HD, Dish expanded, a stash of single-malt, a freezer-load, almost a 201k, and my doc and I have agreed that if Obamacare passes, he'll set up practice in the Caribbean and I'll get my exams and treatment there, then rest on the beach.

Life's not half-bad.
