Attention Nose-Holding Myrmidons! (Updated for Breaking News)

sweet

At the PLA convention I was at one vendor had cutouts of the candidates with to take your picture. Some wit (ahem) asked loudly, "Do you have one of 'Other'?" And they all laughed...

Hello, hello, hello!

'Tis brilliant. Bonus props to the first person to correctly identify who the body in the middle is (hint, it's not Curley).

Phil

You should be blog plugging this, it's funny stuff!

steveegg: I think its Joe.

Scarlet, steve

Thanks. I'm trying to blog a little while I'm multi-multi-tasking.

What we really make this work would be to modify the Stooges pic for the Crawfish for President campaign.

Curly: "Hey Moe! I was just thinkin'!"

Moe:

Continued

(Goofy TH tools)

Moe: "Well don't! Every time you think you weaken the nation!"

Larry: "Yeah! Let a guy who can see saw! See?"

Moe: "Shut up porcupine!"

Crawfish enters: "Hi! I'm Crawfish and I'm running for President. Do I need to say more?"

VPat

I am kinda sorta plugging it by hinting in my comments. It's getting some traffic. Did you notice I coined a new term today for the nose-holding RINOs? I just dropped it on King RINO himself, Michael Medved. I doubt we'll be having drinks soon. I'm thinking of modifying it to "the Pince Nez Tribe".

HAhahahahahahahaha!

Funny, funny stuff.

Incidentally, it's "myrmidon". Unthinking follower, right?

Brian

That's what I thought too but I've seen it spelled mostly my way. It's not a real word. All I know is that it came from some sci-fi book from the 1950s or 60s. Nobody ever uses it anymore except me.

BTW Brian

Did you notice that Hillary uses a Glock to shoot that terrorist hiding under the tank?

Phil, VP

'Tis good to have you doing a bit of blogging again. Wish I was handy with Photoshop.

VP, you're going to have to be more specific in your answer.

Phil

My daughter uses a glock, but I prefer a 9 mm! Ha ha! I liked the three stooges, I was saying to a friend the other day that we had the 3 stooges running for president. I even posted it on a blog or thread and said I meant no disrespect to the Real Stooges. LOL This was too funny.

If you like tornado stories or photos, I have 2 new blogs.

YUK, YUK, YUK

Phil, that candidates as Stooges picture is TOO funny!

Yeah Brian

It is myrmidon. It isn't in any of my dictionaries and apparently it is used at least as often as mermadon but it was originally mirmidon in the book. I'll make the change.

Everyone else,

Thanks for dropping by. Just so there is no mistake, I didn't create that "Stooges" picture, I stole it but the source is captioned in the picture.

Yeah, I saw that Glock

That was that black, boxy thing in her hand, right?

Brian

Boxy or not, it did the job. I'm sure the terrorist is not asking for a "do over" on a technicality.

Phil,

I've noticed via friggles blog that we share similar opinions of pharmaceuticals. I was curious if you had seen Frontlines: The Medicated Child? If not I think you would find it facinating. Not to mention incredibly sad. It can be watched online at PBS if you can't find it on T.V.

1maschrom

Yeah, I did see that Frontline program. It seems that the solution to everything involves a pill. When I go over the symptoms described I probably would have been diagnosed as ADD/HD but it was probably due to my high-sugar diet. For 60+% of children to be medicated is, to me, a scandal. Then again, I don't know anybody my age who isn't on some prescribed drug or another and often, many of the drugs they take are to counter side effects of the other drugs they take. How about watching your diet, getting regular exercise and learning to calm down? I would rather see the pharma industry spending research $$$ on breast cancer, spina bifida, and other truly awful diseases whose victims are innocent. Somehow, hair growth, limp dicks and restlest leg syndrome just aren't worthy of the enormous funding they receive. Same with lung cancer, I was surprised to learn that most victims are not smokers yet it is considered a lesser disease.

The 3 stoogies

The persons in Washington representing my state have frequently been referred to by me as "the three stoogies." Sometimes it really fits.

However, the appellation as applied to your cast of characters is very funny. I love it.

1maschrom

Thanks for your continued support. I'm thinking of dropping out of this venue altogether, because it's so hard to reason with some people once they've made up their so-called minds. It's difficult to do without lowering myself to some others' levels. I don't want to do that -- I don't want to give credence where it is undeserved.

Thanks again.

Frigllesnitz

I feel your pain. I am frequently called a bigot, xenophobe, hypocrite, Nazi, and all sorts of other things by people who latch on to an idea and won't budge regardless of the facts. TH is a political site and politics is not a good venue for seeking truth.

Phil, Friggle

What can I say other than I am SO with you guys. But it seems there is no talking to the folks who think that there MUST be a pill for everything.

Personally I refuse to go there. I take a pill for nothing. And that is not saying that I couldn't go to a doctor and get a crap load of (crappy) medication for things that can and should be dealt with in other ways. Such as a lifestyle changes like Phil suggests.

I don't know about you Phil, but that kid featured on Frontline who now has all those ticks and head roll problems because of the EIGHT kinds of medications he was on at one time, made me cry. And I'm NOT a crier. I just couldn't help but compare him to my 17 yr old son and just think, DAMN, that is not fair that his parents relied on a nutty psycharist to medicate their child in such a profound way beyond his control.

Thank God that WE were not raised in this enviroment. Who knows what you would have been prescribed if subjected to this culture?!

I go on forever on this subject as I feel that strongly about it. But I shall spare ya'll the possible boredom.

God Bless the helpless

That should be

"COULD go on"

This subject gets my brain moving faster than my fingers.

What can I say other than I feel strongly about this subject. To coin a phrase "It moves me"

Hahahaha, Phil

The terrorist's buds are particularly po'ed: "how DARE she kill Achmed with such an unappealing gun????"

More riots in the streets of London to follow; "Mohammed Cartoon" Redux.

P Phil

Picture is McCain to a "T"

BTW, str8t_talk the Glock 26 I have is a great weapon easy to fire etc. Also have a Sig 26 and I like the way the Glock fires better.

btw

How did they make Obama have a scowl in this pic? I've never seen the dude look mean or upset. Just curious.

scarlet

Good point. Looks like the faces are morphed together pretty carefully. The forehead might be Moe's. The guy who made the picture is a very skilled artist. However, based on his website, he appears to be a virulent anti-Semite. Hates Israel.

Well

that's not good. Talent is not virtue.

Great stuff

Totally irrelevant, but, great stuff at your blog. Just read one of your articles. Been reading you guys for months on the threads though. Dig your little tete-a-tete with that Mike fella today. Anyways, add one more Unaffiliated Independent to the roll thanks to you. Keep up the good fight.

Sam, you're right

I'm turning myself in right away. What was I thinking.

Sam

I'm shocked... and confused. I just turned myself in to the TH authorities for my hate-filled activity at your urging and now you spewing hate and cynicism. I don't know what to do. I'll have to turn elsewhere for guidance. I wonder if it's too late to retract my TH confession.

Sam

You left out Jimmuh. He's a doll too.

PASADENA PHIL

How astute you are! And profound!

TH isn't interested in the truth: they can't HANDLE the truth!

And if you've been called a Nazi, a bigot, a xenophobe and a hypocrite, why should I mind being called communist, anti-American, socialist, and, to boot, pinko communist?

Sam, too, is very, very profound. I want to turn myself in as well because of all the really bad things I've said in the past -- recent past -- like I'd been known to call my three D.C. lawmakers the Three Stoogies. But to my credit it's usually only two of them at a time. One of them has to be "right" sometime, don't they?

Anyway, where do I surrender, hands behind my head?

Also -- 1maschrom -- thanks again for a shoulder to lean on -- at least till they haul me away for my transgressions.

Frigglesnitz

In the spirit of your last comment, I just called OneHotMinute a lying sack of $hit. In 2 years of commenting and blogging here, I've only done that 3 times but I reserve the right to do that, particularly on a thread that is attracting lots of comments. If you do it a lot, it's not effective. I've never done it to Doc Steech though and I'm kind of surprised with him. It doesn't seem like him to be insulting. There are lots of people at TH who are simply not worth wasting time on even if they agree with me because their arguments reveal empty heads. I'm looking for open-minded people who want to discuss things truthfully. I CAN be persuaded.

Somewhere on this blog, I once divided commenters between those whose brains are truth-seeking mechanisms versus those whose brains are belief-validating mechanisms. There is nothing to be gained by engaging in discussions with the latter. They aren't looking for answers, just results.

Doc

There is nothing socialist about my views on big pharma and I haven't even articulated my views on the entire industry. I believe in free markets and wish we would go back to them. However, in order for them to work, it is important that they be regulated honestly and efficiently. The first objective of the medical profession is NOT to make a profit but if it is properly regulated, the most efficient provider will be the most profitable. Just like our own profession and the banking industry, the regulators are now in cahoots with those they regulate and it has made a mess of everything.

The unique thing about the pharma industry is that their need to grow profits gets more and more difficult as they cure one disease after another. I've researched this very well and I saved my clients a lot of money by getting them out in time. I don't know what you're looking at and I was not a witness to your discussion with Frigglesnitz. As a portfolio manager, I am appalled by the incompetence and corruption management that is currently infecting Wall Street and the regulatory authorities. That means I don't invest in industries or sectors, I invest in specific companies (including that big pharma Amgen). I would appreciate it if you didn't make such sweeping accusations without good information. I'm very good at what I do and I am committed to facts and truth. I don't know what you base your advice on or whether you're good at it but I can't afford to be wrong very often. If you want to get into specifics, let's go but I really don't appreciate drive-by insults.

Doc

Apparently, I'm in this bigger than I realized. I don't know what the gist of her arguments were but I had to pay almost $1,000 per month for my mother's drugs until we spent down her entire net worth to qualify her for MediCal. That $1,000 paid for 3 pills. One was to control her thyroid condition. One was for blood pressure. The other was a MULTI VITAMIN. This is not the result of free market forces but of aggressive marketing and corrupt regulation. Superior drugs are often replaced by more dangerous and often less effective new drugs when they go generic at the expiration of their patent protection. The aggressive direct marketing budgets and very lax regulatory oversight make that happen. I realize that pharmas have to make money but that is not acceptable. It is not an exaggeration to state that their marketing efforts are increasingly focused on inventing new diseases and conditions rather than developing new drugs.

I'm not for putting them out of business but lets re-introduce ethics and good medicine into the mix. Their is just too much junk science and junk medicine being practiced. Maybe they are TOO big for the needs being addressed?

I favor

If you guys are planning on taking down big pharma, how about leaving Advicor, Lisinopril, Aldactone, and Coreg out of it. Those are the four drugs currently delaying my dirt nap. HaHaHa!

I don't have the technical expertise to debate this issue and my drug dependency makes me less than objective. One thing I have learned in my 40+ years in the business world is that government involvement adds a false construct to the business model.

EPA is my particular cross to bear, eating into my bottom line to the tune of about 12% annually. This is nothing but compliance activity involving shuffling paper to satisfy their ever changing rules and regulations. In the end my customers pay for it all in the form of higher prices.

There are no easy answers to this situation but I am relatively confident that nationalized "anything" isn't one of them.

Sgt Relic

I never intended to get into a discussion about "taking down" pharma. We need all of our industries (well most anyway) in this country and I believe in science and medicine. I am a capitalist through and through but capitalism is not an end in itself. It is not an all-encompassing ideology. It is just a very good economic tool when introduced properly. In my world, regulation is a good thing. If try to play basketball without specific rules all you get is animal ball. What's the point? Before civilization, we had nothing but libertarians... until they became slaves to the most dominant libertarians. The pharma industry is still doing many good things but regulators need to retool to make sure that the pharma companies are developing drugs that represent true progress, not just vehicles to defend profit margins. It is very profitable to expand your business by advertising around cheaper and safer and just as effective generic drugs to promote riskier expensive new drugs requiring other drugs to counter the new side effects. Drug "systems" are expensive. It's not like doctors as a group practice better morality than the rest of us. I just want to see better regulation, not more of it, but like with banks, enforce existing regulations as they were intended to be. Corruption is a very expensive and corrosive way to run anything.

I liked

The Three Stooges pic, very appropriate. I've got few videos up on my blog b/c I couldn't figure out how to post my cartoons.

It's All Poison

Don't touch the stuff myself. Might take an ibuprofen now and then, that's it.

Phil

Went to the range today with my Buckmark and the High Power I got with my vote bribe. Shot really well with both. Have you been able to get any range time in?

Cartoon

Hey, my cartoon is up if you want to see it. Finally figured out how to do it with the new format.

Va Daddy

Wise decision on the bribe money, nice choices on the firearms.

PPhil

Let's face it, everything is going up faster than my paycheck and I don't think one of the Stooges is going to make it any better. Hillary was great in Bosnia as she walked the battlefield without flinching even once. It was almost as if it was not really happening. HaHaHa!

VirginiaP

You got your "free ice cream" bribery check already? My social security no. ends with 00, shouldn't I have gotten mine too? I think I'm going to buy my friend's Ruger Mini-14 with mine. It's a good deal and everyone I know owns one and likes it a lot.

Sarge

Did you notice how fast she pulled out her Glock to waste that terrorist crawling out from under the tank?

Three Stooges

Very appropriate photo of the presidential nomineee clowns!!

Yeah, that brave Hillary, I'm going to vote for her now!! Ha ha. Although I dunno if McCain would be much better.

PPhil

I broke down and looked up "myrmidons". lol. I thought that it meant followers without question and I was close. haha. Thanks for the Word of the Day.

Scarlet

Just trying to help. Myrmidons were a race of robots from a scifi book of the 1950s or I'm also trying to get Pince Nez RINOs going too. (It's French for "nose pinching). Very annoying term if you're a RINO. And there are so many directions to go with it. (Cuts off blood flow to the brain, excessive nose holding leads to the need for RINOplasty, there will be others.)

Hey

It's shameless plug time! New cartoon up.

Phil

I was just reading back through some of the comments. Since one of the courses I am taking this semester for my PA is nutrition, I couldn't help but notice the reference to sugar. This is a misconception.

Although a diet high in sugar is not good for anyone for other reasons; sugar is NOT what hypes children up. What does is the dye in the food they eat. The dye is the most likely culprit in 90% of cases and sometimes preservatives.

Just thought I would pass on that tidbit of information. The professor I have is in the 'Fellowship of Nutritionists;' which only one percent of nutritionists are qualified to belong to.

str8talk

In my case, that might be true because although I eat very well and get plenty of exercise today, I am still a manic compulsive so I have a suspicion that my childhood (self-diagnosis) ADD/HAD was more than playing baseball all day fueled mostly my Sweet Tarts, Wing Dings and Moxie.

Sugar

and Caffiene are God's gift to college students! And sadly I will soon be leaving that catergory, oh well. New post up with my pick for Hillary's campaign song.

Phil.

Of course I disagree with most of your tenants about drug companies. IMO, for good reason--and with a lot of experience under my belt.

And I want to make two points:
1. That video was funny as hell. I especially liked the part where the blood spurted out of the person standing next to Big H then just disappeared into thin air.

2. To Friggles, it's perfectly fine if we disagree on issues. Just to keep us intellectually honest, as an innocent bystander, I saw name-calling going on from both sides of this discussion. Just my opinion: Doesn't seem too healthy to take this stuff so seriously. Doc disagrees with me quite frequently too; I just wink at him and pat his head--telling him he's rather pathetic, then scratch his belly. (Ok, that's sort-of a joke). I'm just sayin', why throw in the towel of your blog because some people disagree with your viewpoints? You made that blog to say what you want, and you enabled it to allow comments. If you don't want to hear them, turn off the comments. I also saw what I thought was a very kind gesture of peace-making on one of your last entries. Why not take advantage of that?

Sam, SC, Keys

Keys, coffee got me through college too.

SC, agree with everything you said. It's important to remember that this is an opinion blog and if we all can't discuss things with people who don't agree, we never learn anything.

Sam, I'm not worried about frankenfoods but I am concerned about importing most things but particularly our food from China. Seems like everything contains lead, mercury, arcenic or is contaminated in some way. If we are going to have regulations and regulators (which I believe in) than regulators are going to have to regulate and inspect.

And yes, I am working on a new e-mag style blog but got derailed about a month ago. Started with the Bear Stearns situation (affected me personally) compounded by a coffee/laptop crisis at the end of tax season and then a sudden surge of business. I'll get to it soon. It won't be about politics.

Phil

It's shameless plug time, new cartoon on my blog.

Ah ha

I always suspected the plan to bring liberals on board was to give Hill the presidency, then send her to Iraq and scare the crap out of the Arabs. Hamas eat your heart out. (She eats RPG's for breakfast) Liberal support would skyrocket and we'd have to call them neoliberals. 3am phone calls would occur, to which she'd say, "Do you feel lucky? Go ahead, make my day." (I liked Curly the best)

P-Phil

We can all her Winston Clinton.

PP

Please read the entire thread of the article "The Left is Wrong", by John Stossel (05/07/08).

Tell me what you think about Hal Doofus's comments and my rebuttals.

Gray Ghost

It's too easy to go after the Hal Doofii.

Idiocy overload. No one except the Huff crowd can take that seriously. They operate on the "fake but accurate" standard.

Phil

This mrbmrb character is something else. I'm not sure what, I can hardly decipher the postings.

VirginiaP

My impression is that he is one of us and that his spelling is definitely intentional. People often do that to make it harder to do a google search on them. His comments are obviously tongue-in-cheek. Other than that, I think our side has had a great 2 weeks. McCain just keeps stepping in it and there is no indication that he is going to stop. I'm just waiting for the Dems to wrap it up so we can see Obama and McCain declaring the end of dirty politics and run a "love in" race. Third party baby!!!!

Sam

I like it!!! Is it mandatory that everyone show up looking like ZZ Top?

PP...

I have a series of new short articles at my site. Drop by if you get a chance.

PP

Check out the British and their demand for their guns back (plus Al Qaeda updates). Stop by if you get a chance.

A Call to Arms

Norman, a frequent poster in TH has invited all to participate in a grassroots effort to come up with an alternative to McCain:

My TH blog, The Blogatorium, has a new mission: To serve as a forum for disenchanted conservatives who cannot in good conscience support John McCain, and want to use their vote wisely and effectively in November.

This endeavor is predicated on the following assumptions:

1. That the GOP has abandoned conservatism, and that conservatives are consequently under no moral, ethical, or other obligation to support the so-called "lesser of two evils."

2. That no true conservative would willingly and enthusiastically support John McCain.

3. That the basic tenets of conservatism are accurately reflected in the "three-legs" model (social, fiscal, and national security), and that a true conservative will embrace all three.

4. That conservatives may, however, differ on the application of each "leg," particularly with respect to questions of faith, and should respect each others' right to do so.

5. That with unprecedented turmoil in both major parties, there has never been a better time to galvanize and mobilize conservative support for a viable, third-party candidate.

6. That compromise is often necessary in politics, but that there comes a time when compromise becomes counterproductive and even suicidal.

7. That the GOP, in making an abusive and manipulative “case” for John McCain, is asking conservatives to put party over principle and to help the GOP destroy the conservative movement.

8. That, in consequence of the aforementioned, a forum should exist wherein conservatives may discuss, debate, and compare the various third-party candidates.

9. That conservatives should, as much as possible, throw their support to ONE third-party candidate, en masse, in order to facilitate a strong showing in November, and future election victories.

Go to: http://blogatorium.blogtownhall.com/

Countryman

Love it! I'll be right over. BTW, a new Reuters/Zogby poll now shows Obama leading McCain by 8% nationally. They were tied last week. I'm assuming that these polls reflect those suspicious polls from NC and PA that showed 2/3 of Hillary's support would go to McCain. Ain't gonna happen. McCain just had his best fundraising month in April and Obama beat him by $32m to $18m. Even Hillary raised $22m. The Dems beat the GOP by $54 to $18, that's 3 to 1. The GOP needs to open the convention to the floor. The leadership should step down en masse, tell the lobbyists to go home, and let some rational adults take over.

More articles up at my blog.

Come by if you get a chance.

thanks for the link, PPhil

to the Bartlett article in The New Republic. I most agree with Larry Hunter but, like Bartlett, I am not yet an Obamacon. I did write an entry about Obama and what attracts people to him. He talks a good game and I agree with some of his ideas of what America should look like.

The big difference I have with Obamacons and a lot of other cons is I love the idea of turning Iraq into a friendly place for Americans. Technically it may not be our place and we've started badly, but I think it will be worth it.

Scarlet

I'll never be an Obamacon but it is interesting that he is assembling an economic team dominated by the Chicago School of economics. We really don't know much about Obama and what we think we know is open to question because Clinton has done an effective job of defining him. Half of Americans believe he is a Muslim for instance. If Obama does a half decent job of defining himself, McCain's strategy of fear-mongering and subtle race-baiting to get Hillary's "red neck" liberal votes will backfire. I just wanted to flesh out for you my prior comments about Obama winning more and more support among economic conservatives and persuading a very important segment of people that he is serious about getting it right and signaling that he won't be an ideologue about it. He is FAR from being the next Jimmy Carter (that was Bush 43) and having the endorsement of Paul Volker should prove that.

not to quibble:) but

I lost respect for Paul Volker when he got nothing done about the Oil for Food scandal at the UN. He may have had his hands tied but I think he dropped the ball on the biggest scandal in history.

However, I have left the Repubs far enough behind that I can take an honest look at Obama. I remember Nixon and he would be considered liberal by today's standards. I liked his policies because they were right for the time (i've read up on them - i was a kid during his administration). Anyway. If Obama gets the econ part down and doesn't try to nationalize healthcare I'd give him credit. As we've both said before, I don't think he'll quit on Iraq when it comes to nut-cutting time.

Scarlet

I agree on Nixon, a president that I believe ruined the presidency but if you haven't read his last book, "The Real War", you should. It was ghost written by Hugh which I didn't learn until earlier this year. It was the book that opened my eyes and made me register Republican to vote for Reagan in 1980. In any event, I fear a McCain presidency more than an Obama but hope neither gets even close to a mandate if they win.

Poor Johnny

Or Joe, getting it from both sides.
Oh well

PPhil

Just like the proverbial bad penny...I'm back. HaHa! It looks like I'm not the only one on sabbatical. Nothing much to add just checkin' in.

Hey sarge

thanks for checking in. Not much to write about that I haven't already said. Just another coiled spring lying in wait. Since Republicans don't want us, might as well take a rest and catch them when they least expect it and least want it. That day is coming I'm sure.

I hope you had a nice 4th of July.

I couldn't help myself. I actually posted a new political essay. Take a look if you have the chance.

Phil

I couldn't help myself when I saw the tag Joe was using, so I stooped to his level and changed my handle to Joe isuzu Surrenders America for a couple of posts. Childish, I know.

Virginia Pat

Hey, I thought it was very funny. Childish or not, it highlights how childish Joe is. The guy is having a nervous breakdown. I am really wondering if Joe has a mental problem. How important can it be to him for McCain to win? Doesn't he realize he lives in America? He actually believes all this fear-mongering and race-baiting. Sick puppy.

hey PPhil

I read up on the Jamiel's Law motion. Thanks for tipping me off. Good to see people take a stand in LALA land.

Rationalization

Retired Geek has posted a great example of rationalization as it pertains to the present Presidential election.

Subject: A Vote for Bob Barr is a Vote for Obama

The complex process the human mind uses to arrive at decision-making has been the topic of many volumes.

One consensus that is generally held is the human mind can justify any decision and any action that it takes.

Rationalization is the mortal enemy of facts, logic and reason.

Rationalization is in ‘simple’ terms, a defense mechanism that attempts to explain bad decisions or behavior in a rational logical manner.

Rationalizing that a vote for any candidate that cannot win is not a vote for Obama gives us a prime example of rationalization.

Rationalizing that a ‘symbolic’ vote will teach the major parties a lesson contrasts the reality of their premise that the major parties ‘do not know what they are doing’ and ‘haven’t learned from the past’.

Teaching 'Politicians' a lesson is oxymoronic at best - Obama-Followers will vote for Obama regardless.

Third party votes at this time in history, is simply a 'proxy' vote for Obama that gives one a feeling of 'superior' Patriotism, I guess.

Rationalizing that ones closely held principles trump the safety and wellfare of America and its citizens is little different from those who want America destroyed.

Those who say we need to return to the Constitution that many Americans have left or attempted to destroy will be best accomplished by giving Obama and Liberals their desires and wishes to control America, is akin to giving children matches and gasoline.

The children will surely learn a lesson if survival succeeds in overcoming the odds.

Rationalizers - What exactly is your 'Recovery Plan'?

Rationalizing that an Obama presidency will be good for America in the long run defies facts, logic and reason.

Black Cat

Lame as lame can be. A vote for Obama is a vote for Barr. How does that sound? As dumb as what you said. When I vote for Barr, I vote for Barr. That is the way it is tallied too. Your arguments make no sense.
