Nam Knights, et al.

You may have heard about the motorcycle gangs that now travel to military funerals. They have names like the 'Nam Knights' or the 'Patriot Riders', and such, and are usually either former military or law enforcement guys. I was at a funeral with military honors for a Marine killed in Iraq a couple of months ago, and one of these motorcycle groups arrived (the Marine was a rider himself).

After seeing them firsthand, I can tell you that you would be amazed at how patriotic these guys are. They were given permission to march into the procession at the beginning. There was at least 250 of them, all carrying American flags. They then lined up along the side, still holding the flags, and stood there as the rest of the ceremony proceeded. It was amazing. After the remains were taken away, these guys got on their motorcycles and departed. The noise of that many bikes proceeding through this town literally drowned out every other sound.

What made me think of this? That report about the Guardsman getting attacked. Number one, the riders demonstrate that some people (and, being an optimist, I would hope that most people) still get it. They are living examples of people who are truly proud to carry the flag and honor those who make the ultimate sacrifice. On a more subtle level, their presence provides both an affirmative gesture of thanks for the family, and, I think, a sense of security for them. The family's loved one was overseas for all of us, so the riders are there for the family in their time of need.

Oh, and by the way, if any of those punks ever tried to attack a man in uniform in the presence of one of these associations ... well, let's just say, it probably would not end too well for them. Something tells me that these groups don't suffer fools too lightly.

Great job with the blog. Thanks for adding me to your roll, I will do the same.

Thanks

And yes, I'm sure it was a sight to see. I'd have loved to have seen that.

As for these five guys, well, let's just say that it wouldn't go unchallenged if they brought it to my neighborhood either.

And I hope and pray that your optimism is based on more truth than you or I can see. I too, hope that most would not dream of assaulting (or even insulting) our servicemen. Or just stand by quietly watching it happen.

We must honor our servicemen. As you say, they make the ultimate sacrifice.

Thanks for stopping by. And you're welcome, I enjoyed your blog. I had to add it. Makes it easier to go back to it too.

Guardsmen Attacked

Why does it not surprise me. The attacks of the left are getting bolder, and now have taken on a pyhsical apsect. Perhaps we can charge them with one of their own little pet laws that being:
"Hate Crime" They obiviously target the person for being what he is; military. I will link to this latter at both sites

I like your passion

I feel the same way.

It seems that all is lost at times, but I believe there are more good people in this country who love America and honor the sacrifice of our soldiers, than those who don't.

Cristian D. Bareford, I got goose bumps hearing your story. God bless those riders!

Richard, I like your suggestion for labeling this a hate crime. Right on! That would really bug the left!

It does seem that all is lost, at times

I sure hope you're right. We won't last if we lose our love of country and respect for those who keep her free.

And Richard is right. This is a hate crime.

Forget the Bikers...

Let this Army wife see someone treat a soldier that way! I swing a mean diaper bag...

I wrote about the Patriot Guard Riders a while back http://soccermomunplugged.bloghi.com/2006/02/27/ride-on.html as much as I wish to never have cause to stand with them, I would be honored should the occasion arise.
