Maudie's 'Whatever happened to Cal Thomas?'

Misjudging the article

I think that you have misunderstood the article in question. Cal seems to be showing us a simpler time, a time before politics became so ingrained in our personal relationships. You accuse him of insulting talk radio out of a supposed jealousy. I did not sense that he was attacking talk radio, but merely pointing out how anymore stations have talk segments when they used to play music. He seems to be noting with the statement about talk radio that we can no longer escape politics, even on the airwaves. I agree somewhat with what you mention about Obama (considering that he was a Muslim and his "church" preaches black separatism), but Cal made a decent point that religion and patriotism are not political tools and should not be used as such. As for your remark about Cal ridiculing G.K. Chesterton, I do not see how he did this. The Goering quote is another example where you seem to miss his point. I think Cal wrote this article to wake Conservatives up, so that they will be more responsible for their words and, instead of personally attacking liberals as unpatriotic, acknowledge that while liberals may love their country that their idea of what America should be will not work. I also think he wrote this article to wake up Americans to tell them to have a life outside of politics and to appreciate what simple things we have (like music on the radio) and to remember what we have lost and need to get back (the sense of community that he describes). These are just my thoughts.
