Comment on: Romney for President. NOT!

Will Mitt Romney swear on Book of Mormon and other practical problems

Romney is running for President, not as

Pastor. I would never hire him to lead a Bible Study, because his view of scripture is not the same as mine.

But should he be President?

Jimmy Carter kept claiming to be a "Born Again Christian," and in fact the first time I heard that phrase, it was coming out of his mouth. Yet I can't think of a single President who did a worse job than "Jimmuh."

Does Mitt Romney baptise his ancestors into the Mormon faith? I don't know and really don't care, if he is the right person for the job.

I have known a lot of Mormons over the year, and though their theologhy is off base, they tend to be decent, moral, cultured people whose political opinions mesh with mine much more than anyone who attends an apostate Christian church.

Will he bring a Book of Mormon to be sworn in? Perhaps, but I suspect he will bring a Bible as well.

But the more important question is; will he be a good President?

Paranoia

Your paranoia amounts to a lot of good entertainment.

As a Mormon, I can assure you (99% sure) that Mitt would not choose to swear an oath for office over the Book of Mormon. I suppose he could take that route, but it would be entirely out of character.

You really should read the words of Ezra Benson (Secretary of Agriculture under Eisenhower) on Mormon views on their role in government. His words should hold as much weight as any current or former Mormon prophet. After all, he was the Mormon prophet from 1985 to 1994.

Perhaps if you twist it just right, you'll be able to use Benson's words to further your agenda!

Romney For President

Back in 1960 the same type of attacks were being leveled, probably by people like you, that if Kennedy were elected President, the Pope would rule our country.
Well, Kennedy was elected and the our world didn't collapse. I am sure the same would happen here.
Stop spreading your hate and "practice what you preach".

interesting..

I'm not a mormon, but i used to be one. I am a returned missionary but no longer believe in what is taught as gospel in the religion. So, becuase I have no love for Mormons or their doctrines, and yet speak from an 'insiders' point of view, having been to the temple and been a part of all the ordinances performed there, I think I can bring a balanced point of view to bear.

In addition, I will soon be a law student, so it's reasonable to claim that logic and philosophy is a hobby of mine.

That said, your venomous hatred for mormons seems quite out of the realm of logical discourse. I agree with you on some points, and I too do not wish for Mitt Romney to be elected President for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that he is Mormon. I've also met and interacted with him and while he is nice on the face, I don't believe he is the best choice.

However, I digress. You have various links stretching out here there and everywhere which supposedly 'validate' your claims that Mormonism is a cult, and so on so on. I also think Mormonism is a cult- but not for the reasons that you do. You use the lists and the links as 'evidence' when they are nothing of the kind. For example, the link to the sound file that urges Mormons be selective in accepting tracts and publications from people outside the temple grounds, you say that this is evidence that mormonism is a cult. No it isn't. it's evidence that Mormons don't want their members reading negative material. Which I get. That in and of itself does not make them a cult. That is a lot like saying an IQ score is a measure of a person's intelligence when all an IQ score really is, is a measure of how well they do on a test.

So I think you are making some wide leaps in your logic. Again, I agree with you on some points, but i would encourage you to go back to logic and really draw your conclusions with the use of the principles of formal logic (such as the DNA case, which is a great one) because you are more likely to find adherants to your points if you do. Believe me, there are plenty of logical arguments against Mormonism out there. you have a lot of meat to work with there.

I encourage you to continue, and again, be logical about it, so as to come off sound intelligent, rather than as a paranoid religious fanatic as you currently are.
