Talk About Real Issues

Dear Sporadic Blogger,

You’re right that our country is at a pivotal moment in its history. We’re not at a fork in the road so much as on a highway to hell, and we’re approaching the last exit before our destination. There’s a clear path behind us that brought us to this place and a clear way out. “More of the same” is not just a sound bite of the Obama campaign, but a promise that John McCain is making, quite openly, to continue the failed policies of the Bush administration. You spent your entire post talking about everything around in this election but where these two candidates actually stand on issues. If you examine the candidate’s positions it becomes crystal clear what different paths McCain and Obama are proposing for us. John McCain wants to extend Bush tax cuts to the rich. This has been an American tradition for the last 30 years in the false promise that corporate tax cuts will increase incentives for companies to invest in the United States. John McCain promises more oil drilling, which, obvious to any thinking person, is a fruitless effort, while he remains silent on the cheap, clean and abundant natural gas resources we have. John McCain wants to continue to obstruct the Democrats’ efforts at passing a comprehensive healthcare plan while other countries are using socialized healthcare as a backdoor method of subsidizing their industries, something our own auto industry desperately needs to compete with foreign competitors. There are a myriad of other real issues that distinguish the two candidates and rather than using the same empty rhetoric you deride Obama for using, by discussing the candidates’ sound bites, temperaments and your impression of their personal narratives (which are all irrelevant to how these two will actually govern and where they will lead us), you can use this medium to discuss actual differences between the two candidates and their proposed solutions to the country’s problems.
