Hillary and Barack Pledge Economic Injustice To Withdrawing John Edwards!

economic justice

I enjoyed reading this article. My original thought concerning the two remaining democrats pledging to fight for economic justice was simply, what is economic justice? To me, this country is all about economic justice. Everyone has the opportunity to work and achieve their goals. Maybe their goals are wealth and material objects or maybe they have other goals in mind. Either way we are free to pursue these goals. Nowhere are we guaranteed anything. Not everyone can be millionaires and not everyone can finish at the top, but everyone can compete. Without competition, everything goes to pot. Give everone something for nothing and this country will soon be mediocre at best. The liberal mindset to me has always seemed immature. They dream about world peace and fairness and equality. Give every kid a trophy, don't keep score at the soccer games. We wouldn't want one team to feel bad. Meanwhile the rest of the world is diggin in getting ready to kick our butts. Life is not fair and you have to fight for anything you want. Period.

The opportunity to pursue our goals.

Todd, you said it well, and you describe what the founders believed and stated so well in the Declaration of Independence: "we hold these truths to be self evident: that all men are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They did not understand that the rights granted to all men included the acquisition of happiness (a word that at that time was understood as "blessings" rather than an emotional state of mind, but that is another story), but rather the freedom and opportunity to pursue happiness. When we attempt to assure happiness for all men, or equal wealth for all, all we are doing is creating a disincentive for people to work for their own success.
