An Israeli Strike Won't Suffice

Nuke Iran

The sad reality is that Israel may have little option let but to use nukes as "bunker busters."

Even they may not have the punch to reach a lab entombed in a purpose-hardened mountain bunker.

I don't think that Israel will resort to nukes, unless its survival is at stake, [I don't mean in a possible nuke Iran way, I mean right now way].

When is the line crossed?

"When is the line crosed" is the magic equation to two major questons:

At what point does Israel feel a strike is necessary against Iranian nuclear facilities, and

At what point does Israel feel that their existence is threatened enough to use nukes to take out Iranian nuclear facilities?

If a coventional strike has low chance of success, then...

At what point does Israel feel a strike is necessary against Iranian nuclear facilities, and

[this would be a conventional strike, and could be to stop their nuke abilities]

At what point does Israel feel that their existence is threatened enough to use nukes to take out Iranian nuclear facilities? [This would be a much greater level than conventional]

Don't know, jevica

I'm not sure a conventional strike would be able to substantially disable their nuke program. Delay it a bit, maybe.

If reports are true, their facilities are buried deep and hardened beyond the reach of conventional tactics and bombs.

Kinda limits the nature of a military response (from us OR the Israelis). What point would there be in firing off a bunch of missiles that would cost a lot of money, cause an uproar in the U.N., and after all is said and done, don't do a thing to stop them.

It's a pickle.

PDX Dave

It's a difficult call.

Israel would have to be 100% sure, and would they be able to knock out Iran's nuke program for good.

Any mistake and they are alone.
