Just heard Sotomayor speak
I noticed that the whole speech was about herself and what it means to her life... Like she was accepting an award or something...These lefties are not humbled by the constitution like most patriots, They are emboldened to continue their culture of blame and victimhood through judicial paybacks and bench law-making.... sad day for impartial Justice.

And so we should
associate the lack of empathy with conservatives? Do you really want to know what professionals call those who have no empathy?

Caday can't distinguish again
What do we call an Umpire who can't make a fair call?
Should we Take lifestyle, race,or gender into consideration when calling strikes or outs?
Only if you're a social engineer!

That is neat,
we say that life is nothing more than a game and that laws that have such a personal and nonpersonal affect are nothing more than the rules of the game.
On the other hand, having empathy means we can better apply the laws written because we know that fallible humans cannot write perfect laws.
Again, do you know what professionals call those who have no empathy?

your point is irrellevant
Because you start with the foolish assumption that the conservative judges have no empathy as humans. Professionals who do their job correctly and ethically with empathy or not are called professionals.

While your Q may have merit under "classic" conditions, I don't believe it applies in the context of this nomination. I don't believe the President is using the term "empathy" in the classic manner.
"Empathy" in this case, as R&C has pointed out, means prejudice. Empathy is about being able to "feel" a particular group's pain. Supreme Court Justices are supposed to be about applying the Constitution in an unbiased manner as possible. Indeed, they are humanoids and are capable of emotions such as empathy, but that is NOT a reason to Seat someone on the Supreme Court.
Sorry to ramble on, R&C and Caday.

Perhaps R&C's definition is wrong. The question is not whether empathy can result in prejudice, the question is whether empathy implies that prejudice will result.

In the context of this nominee, given all I have read and researched, the latter applies in this case.
Assuming you have researched and come to a different conclusion, we just may need to agree to disagree. Works for me and trust it does for you as well.

I know nothing about this particular nominee. I do know that some conservatives on the TH blogs have been filtering information to build their cases. Perhaps you can refer me to a website that posts her actual writings.

I don't retain websites I visit per se. What I tend to do is "google" and then start clicking away. Now this may not be the most efficient and it certainly is NOT scientific, but that's what I do.
Does that help?
