This is a very uplifting post, one of the most encouraging I have read. It is a pleasure to read your postings.

Keep up the good work Maverickette.

conservabear!

hey, have you been to gunny's blog yet today?

ya gotta go, seriously!

(you're a sweetie, by the way. thank goodness we can all spell "maverick." a mccainite had a sign without the "e" during his speech last night. the media kept, of course, displaying it prominently...)

the speech

great content, but McCain's not a great speech giver. That said, he's bringing the base together and has a good chance to win. SO......it'll come down to whether or not the Dem's STEAL the election by some sort of cheating. Strong words I know, but remember who we're talking about. Just watch.

sarge&dave

i know, i know, he is not obama when it comes to delivering a speech. but what he said was FAR more effective, and as fred barnes said, more inclusive/expansive than obama's speech, which actually seemed to become more exclusive/insulated.

sarge, are you okay? ike hit va, didn't it?

? may have been hanna?

hopefully, sarge is okay. all kinds of bad news with the storms on today...

Do you think?

Do you think Obama feels left out? He is no longer the new kid on the block going after the Clinton machine? Hmmm...wonder how that feels?

He seemed to have been quite testy the other day discussing his experience. And of course his side kick was in PA screaming his head off, excuse me...giving a speech.

I thought the speech had some good content. It had more substance than Obama's and Obama had more attacks. I think that McCain does better in the town hall settings, but I think he did better than he normally did with the tele-prompter. I have to say I was very inspired at the end.

effective, yes BG

he must have done something right to pull in so many viewers, and the ending cresendo was impressive and spontaneous. What a jolt of energy. For a while, like when Ridge was speaking, I thought, "what a bore....."

hey, sue! what's up? "testy"

he really is. i think it's the way the palin thing is unfolding. the left is embarrassing itself.

he looks mad.

i dunno. i live in chicago, and the practical effect of an obama presidency isn't going to make me blink an eye. chicago is already enjoying an obama presidency, and has been for a long time.

but in terms of the direction he'll take the entire country, that's a potential disaster with a wicked turn to the left. if he wins? it'll impact me far less than it will others. but i'd much prefer mccain. and i liked his speech a lot, too! (don't think you're mean over michelle's dress at all, by the way. but did you see biden's wife's dress?)

dave/ridge

YAWN. i agree! dave, who did you think gave the best speeches in terms of delivery? my vote=giuliani. in terms of overall effect=palin, mccain tie

this poor guy, he's a war hero, and he's STILL fighting...

biden's wife's dress

okay, i'm sorry, now i'm the one who's mean.

but that thing looked like a grade school geometry project gone terribly wrong.

Beltway

Long time. I have been lagging. I was just so giddy over the new OK! cover with Obama, I couldn't see straight or I have been in a transe since he did his big speech.

Biden's wife's dress. I have to go back and look at that.

I heard that the women are going to help Obama. I have to laugh, the woman from Kansas (Gov - can't think of her name), was on the short VP list. Do you think the press would have attacked her if she had been chosen? Considering the top story that was coming out of Kansas for months was the abortion doctor.

By the way, I am not sure who thinks they are getting CA, because we are still limited (pretty much nothing) on ads. Obama lost by a lot of votes to Hillary during the primary and McCain won here.

and i should add

i would MUCH prefer mccain. MUCH. he is BY FAR the best candidate. the idea of seeing obama sitting with putin is just... not a comfort.

sue, this stuff is insane

they're talking about how palin isn't putting her family first.

i don't remember this same heavy-handed type of attack going on with JOHN EDWARDS, whose wife had CANCER.

there was light buzz, but nothing like this.

and yeah, that dress

just on the basis of that dress, someone needs to get THAT woman on "the view" for a makeover.

Beltway

What a bunch of hypocrites. Good old Pelosi has five kids. She is in a magazine this month talking how her kids kept her grounded, etc...while she had her career....blah...blah...

I guess it only works for the Dems and only them. Has anyone asked Obama about if he becomes President and his small children? Has anyone questioned Joe Biden getting sworn into the Senate with his little boys in the hospital and how he planned to take care of two small boys after the tragedy?

How about all of the news anchors; Soledad, Katie, Campell, E.D., Martha...etc, how they manage to have a career and raise their children? Of course not, but Campbell Brown can dump on Sarah.

These entire attacks have gone all over the place. As far as I am concerned, it is a sad day for human beings.

this double standard

with the press towards the parties has finally gone too far.

oh, well, sarah, she believes in "family values," so this "opens her up" to such vicious attacks.

what SHE believes in, or doesn't believe in, ISN'T SUPPOSED TO MATTER. the press should have an OBJECTIVE standard that applies to all. they are, after all, supposed to be OBJECTIVE.

i hardly see how having "family values" would open you up to what they're doing right now.

aren't they something?

Sue: Campbell Brown

Hey Sue!

Campbel Brown and CNN is also on the tank for Obama. It isn't just MSNBC. In one of my recent blogs, I talked about how the CNN crew, like all libs, wants the nation to forget about 9/11. Libs wants America to forget about 9/11, because they know Americans perceive libs as "weak" on defense. So the libs, instead of getting tougher, they want Americans to think that they don't need leadership that's "tough" on those that threaten American security.

speeches

Giuliani lead the three great speeches leading up to Palin's masterstroke that went nuclear. I can 't remember a speech as inspiringly delivered as hers. And the pressure was on. Impressive. My wife and I agreed, Huck, Mitt & Rudy all gave better speeches than at any time during their primary campaigns. I asked Donna, what's the difference now? She said.....passion. Something's happening now.

dave, how about fred thompson?

that guy is absolutely charming. he's so witty, he has such a nice manner about him, and he gives a FANTASTIC speech.

how many days until the election now? 75?

beltway girl/dave re Fred Thompson

Great Post! your posts are always so descriptive and well written.. Re Fred Thompson, If he had been half awake and gave speeches during the primaries like he did at convention he may have won this

he's just such a character!

he's just... i love fred thompson. i wish he'd had a really, really aggressive organization in place. it's such a shame. you know, though, i'm an odd cookie when it comes to the presidency. to some, voting someone into the presidency is the biggest honor that can be bestowed, and i understand that, and i feel that way, too. BUT have you seen some of these people once they leave that office? they look like hell on wheels. i mean, it's exactly the opposite of astronauts. they look like they just aged at ten times the rate of a normal human being. i know it sounds ridiculous, but this is always something i comfort myself with when my guy (or woman) loses.

beltway

Hey, girly, girl are you watching the "American Woman" Greta's Special report on Fox. I saw it last night. I thought it was pretty positive and unbiased compared to all the other manure slinging out there but what do I know.

Hey thanks for the Salon Link I left a nice message on it.

http://letters.salon.com/env/feature/2008/09/05/sarah_palin _down_syndrome/view/?show=all

hey, bear, saw it last night

well, in bits and pieces. i thought it was pretty good.

i don't blame the mcpalin for shielding this woman from the press for awhile. i mean, they've already given her such a warm welcome.

and that salon article... GROWL!! incredible. i rest my case. like a bunch of complete nuts.

hey, bear, i saw your comment!!

way to go! holy cow, that thing's generating a lot of interest (i.e., horror)...

what a world, bear, what a world. it's all enough to make anyone miserable. people truly have gone nuts. in bulk.

Beltway Girl

With you on the dress/outfit. See trying not too sound too mean. :)

Armanius

Hey there!

Yes, I know wonderful CNN is in the tank for Obama. They just hold back slightly. Unlike MSNBC. Those people should really be wearing Obama/Biden 08 buttons.

I will be heading back over to your blog.

Fred Thompson - I agree. He gave a good speech! And Rudy, I was actually cheering on my sofa!

sue

oprah, or someone, better get that woman on her show pronto.

call in tim gunn!

Beltway Girl

I actually want Sarah to snub Oprah. I know...I know. But, I am not a fan of hers. I really do not care for her show. I think she is a hypocrite and also a phoney. I don't understand her cult following. Sorry!

I did see that she will be on ABC this week. Charles Gibson is going to interview Gov Palin. Wow, wasn't he one of the mean ones that actually asked Obama a tough question and got him flustered???? Shocking! I don't think Obama has recovered, oh wait he has, he was with George S. this morning!

sue, i just meant

the wardrobe-impaired biden's wife. she's now obiden's chick, so she can go (Conservatives Need Not Apply).

i hope palin doesn't do ANY show but those on foxnews.

it took nine months for obamadude to do foxnews, which, you know, is "hostile press" for him and the boys.

well, all the press BUT foxnews is "hostile press" for palin. that's enough of a disadvantage right there, which ought to speak for itself, and i hope palin does nothing BUT foxnews for the next nine months...

omGod, sue, she's doing ABC? really? (just saw that)...

not to get totally off the subject, but i do really wonder if people, years from now, won't look back at the hillary pass and see it as obamacide.

because (well, in part)

palin has some beautiful outfits.

obamacide.

(and the new obiden chick)

look, it's way beyond oprah.

this is a tim gunn job. i don't think anyone but tim gunn himself could clean up that woman's closet. and that's just a fact.

tim will have his work cut out for him.

Beltway Girl

I was with you with Mrs. Biden or should we call her Mrs. Obiden?

Tim Gunn sounds like a great idea!

I heard about ABC. Not thrilled, but at least it is not with Katie Couric!

Subject: Hillary

I have been thinking a lot about Hillary and quite frankly I can see why Obama did not pick her. Of course you had the Bill factor, but another thing is could you imagine the ads that the McCain campaign could have done? Those two telling each other every five seconds that neither was worthy of the Presidency? As they did in every debate and stump speech?

Also, I have thinking about Hillary's 18 million votes. Were they really all for Hillary or were they against Obama? I had many relatives in PA that changed from Republican to Democrat just so they could vote against Obama. Makes you wonder. When you really think about it, did all those people really want Hillary or just not Obama?

As for the relatives I have in PA, I have said this before and I am not proud, but they will not vote for Obama because he is black. That is sad. I do agree with that in any way shape or form!

P.S.

My sister and her husband are Obama's supporters. Make me puke!

Anyway, the other night, I toilet papered their house with my friends. And we stole the Obama yard sign. Quite mature for a 43 year gal I may add!

Sue

I see your point about some Hillary supporters actually being Obama resisters, but I still think that Hillary would have been a better pick fo Obama. The ads you are envisioning can be made (and probably have) featuring Obama and Biden, because it was Biden who was making comments about the Presidency not being the place for on the job training! If Obama had just vetted Hillary he could have gotten some of her voters, but his not even giving her a look and choosing Biden has to have an alienating effect on those PUMA voters that Obama will need.

The Dems were in doo doo

Clinton would have undermined Obama. And she still probably is at some level, like Bill's remark about picking someone you might not completely agree with, but who CAN get things done. BG, I don't believe Hillary could have won the WH, too many people hated her. The Dems can't come up with a good candidate. And, IMO, if there is civil unrest if Obama loses, they won't get the WH for decades.

you guys, i still say

passing her by was a terrible, terrible blunder.

obama's strenths would have offset hillary's stridency. her experience (although i still don't quite get this argument; okay, let's say "her husband") would have offset obama's resume, which could give you a paper cut.

hillary packed in millions of votes. i know what you're saying, sue, were they just voting "against" obama? i doubt it. some, maybe. but hillary herself isn't exactly a picnic table in the woods. i can't picture hillary clinton being a magnet for too many voters fleeing from the specter of obama far-left-wing radicalism. they could just as easily have flipped and voted for mccain (although i'm not sure if that's possible for all primaries)...

i know it would have been a nightmare for obama to have the hillbill as roomies in the white house; but he may have lost his white house slot for the fall by fighting over the roomies. biden was just as hard on him as the hillbill.

dave, neither might not be able to win solo. it had to be the team.

and flag, i'm with you 100% on this. he should have sucked it in and taken her on, nightmare or no nightmare. the polls today have to be a far bigger nightmare for him.

obamacide.

a true Democrat.

beltway girl

I'm pulling the lever, stop on by....
