Coup D'Etat

Good analysis, Flag

The one thing you haven't mentioned is that the Dems couldn't do any of these things if not for the tacit cooperation -- either through ineptitude, cowardice, appeasement or abetment -- of the Republicans.

Bush signed McCain/Feingold into law. McCain formed the Gang of 14. Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

This is why I'm constantly harping on the idea that, at least in my opinion, it's past time to draw the line in the sand with the Republican party and DEMAND that they return vigorously to conservative ideals and candidates; that we'll no longer support or vote for them if all they'll do is give us McCains and Giulianis as candidates.

You have again proven my case.

And we can thank our traitorous friend

Sen. John McCain for the first two blows you cite. No Way does this guy make POTUS! NO WAY!

Great post and comments.

From what I can tell about all of the comments I've read on TH, if McCain or Giuliani get the nomination, it's going to get ugly.

Flag, I've got a post (To Be (like a Dem) Or Not To Be), that kind of goes along with this. That is, not so much about the legistlature trying to take over executive powers, but about fighting back. I think a lot of conservatives are tired of A. holding their noses when they vote and B. watching their party take beating after beating without raising a fist in return.

I didn't mention McCain...

...by name b/c it goes without saying. We all know the part he has played, and most of it seems to be b/c he is still in a snit that GWB actually ran against in him in 2000, and played to win! Since that moment MCCain has been on a mission to get back at GWB and the GOP for not handing him the nomination, and we see the hell he has unleashed on us all. The Democrat(ic) Party could not wage the war on the Constitution that they are waging w/o the help of many a GOP member and they must be held accountable for it.

Not much to add,

as I quite agree with you, and while I have come around to BrianR's way of thinking, I am not particularly optimistic that things are going to start looking up anytime soon. Feel free to disagree with me on the last point though, please?

Excellent piece. You really nailed it! And we should be very concerned about this "Coup D'Etat" as you put it.

Our problem is we have moderates like McCain who continue to be elected in states that aren't red, and it is difficult to get conservatives elected in those states.

We face a dilemna in the party, in that if we don't vote republican down the line, regardless of whether or not we can have everything we would like, we will hand over the reigns to those who would impose their socialist vision of America on us all, and further erode the Constitution.

Hopefully we will have a strong conservative (maybe Thompson) who will get the nomination, but if not, what will you do, Flag? Will you not vote for the nominee? Just wondering, since we're having this discussion among conservatives.

Very good essay, and I agree 100%.

Flag

I have to mention that today I posted a new essay on my blog addressing essentially the same problem from a different tack. I'd welcome your comments, as usual, as I value your opinion.

It's not a new topic for me, I guess, as everyone knows. But take a look.

Sheila

You need to take a look at my latest essay. Apologism and bogeyman scare tactics simply won't cut it anymore.

Sorry to be so blunt, but there it is.

Republicans

The Bastion of Conservatism

Their bastion is a sand castle being eroded by the Democrat tide.

Somebody please tell me why they have thrown away their majority and are now throwing away their integrity.

Why do they roll over, like a cowed dog, tail between their legs pizzing all over themselves while the Democrats bully and destroy them.

Don't they hear the American people saying, "Get up! Fight!"?

Americans do not like bullys. But they like cowards even less. I hope they find this out. Before it is too late.

I'm not voting for anyone that

doesn't share my values anymore. If it's going to be socialism or socialism lite anyway, let the blame fall on the socialists rather than be diminished as a shared guilt.

Our willingness to compromise is how we've lost our way. The other side NEVER compromises; our side ALWAYS does. It's been an unmitigated disaster for us and the country. It took the fecklessness of Jimmy Carter to open the door to Ronald Reagan. And even though the record is absolutely clear with respect to the results each man acheived, the left still insists Carter was a better president than Reagan. Quit trying to reason with and accomodate these people, it's a waste of time and only diminishes us in the process.

I have a fresh post along these lines up at the Heartland. Stop by when you get a minute.

Sheila & Scottie

I cannot in good conscience vote for anyone that does not share my values and concerns. I know that there is no perfect candidate out there, but there has to be someone more in tune to my principles than Rudy or McVain. Being a somewhat good mayor does not qualify you to be President, nor does having served time in the Hanoi Hilton...that may sound harsh, but it is true.

I personally would like to see Fred Thompson in the race, becasue he would get my vote. He is an unabashed conservative, a very good communicator, and a man that has a record as a Senate member to bear this out.

Flagwaver

We're on the same side, and we need to work for the goal of more conservatives in government all the way up to the WH!

We have a problem, though, that the Left was in control for 40 years, and are entrenched everywhere.

As you've said, the Republican party isn't the conservative party, though that's the best place to find conservatism, and hopefully we can get more conservatives in the republican party, and in congress.

Maybe you should consider running for office! I mentioned somewhere else, that maybe you or BrianR could be our next Reagan!

Also,Flagwaver

We must put the pressure on so we will get the nominee we want. It's not an easy thing, though, so we have to be realistic...with the MSM today...

Do you think we could survive, with the WOT hanging over us, if the Left wins the congress and the WH? I'd like your perspective on that.

Flagwaver

Sorry to come back again, but this is critical, in my mind. If we don't wind up with the perfect candidate, in an imperfect world, will we by not voting for said candidate in essence vote for the democrat by default?

And can we afford to do so, in the current world situation, where the yellow party would be wanting to make nice with Islamic jihadists?

Even Rev. Falwell, who is as conservative as they come, said that our candidates are FAR superior to what they have on the Left! If he is saying that, it tells me he understands that this election is extremely critical...

So, for myself, I would have to wonder if in good conscience I could in essence vote for the democrat, by not voting for the republican choice...am I wrong then?

Sheila

Sorry to have taken so long to respond to you, but I was having abit of trouble with the site. I could see your post headings, but I couldn't access them until today.

The way I see it, as long as we continue allowing the GOP to feed us RINO's they will keep feeding us RINO's. The GOP takes the conservative vote for granted because they know that we have no other real home, so they treat us like redheaded stepchildren...they want us to do the work with none of the rewards. We are the ones that do grassroots work, we are the ones volunteering for candidates, and we are the ones beating the bushes to explain the conservative positions that we want to see taken by the Party. After doing all thelegwork though, we are left holding the bag while the old boys club gives power to the "moderates". My question is this: Can the country continue to survive if we continue to cede power to a Party that abuses it? We at least know upfront what the Dems are going to do, but we keep getting shafted by GOPers that act the same way!

Maybe BrianR is onto something in withholding his vote from RINOs and WISHes. Until the GOP realizes that they need the conservative base to be more than a marginal party, they will continue to treat us like that stepchild I spoke of earlier. If we continue to accept chaff, why should they ever give us wheat?

I aslo have to disagree with Rev. Falwell about our having better candidates than the Dems, because right now our candidates are the same. Rudy is the same as Hillary, only Hillary has more hair. Rudy is just as pro abortion, anti gun, and pro gay rights as Hillary Clinotn. the only thing they differ on is national defense, and who knows where Rudy would ultimately stand on that issue...being a pretty good mayor does not inspire me to believe that he is oing to make a good President. McCain is a slave to good press and has sold out conservatism at every turn...witness his attacks on Pat Robertson and Rev. Falwell. The good reverend may have forgiven him, but you had better not forget what he said about the "Christian right" being a force for hate in this country. He meant what he said then and his mealy mouthed apology only came because he wanted to run for President again. Romney has fought some battles in Mass., but he has also flip flopped on some crucial social issues...just when he decided to run for Prez! How convenient!!!

I understand your concern about the WoT, but that is not a good enough reason to give up the fight to secure our society. What is the se in winning a war on terror if the war for our culture has been lost?

Like I said before, I cannot and will not vote for a Republican candidate that does not share my principles. I know that I will disagree with even the best candidate on specific issues, or on policy points; that is just the way it is. I will not, however vote for someone that shares only one core belief or two with me, and right now that is what the GOP is giving us. If the GOP wants my vote, they had better givce me someone worth voting for...and McVain, Rudy the Rogue, and Mitt are not it!

I have made the choice to vote for my principles over the Party, and if enough of us do that...starting in the primaries...we can change this Party around. But if we conservatives keep giving away the milk (votes) the GOP is never going to buy the cow (ideals).

Yeah, the site's been the pits lately, though it seems to be coming back.

Your last comment was almost as good as your essay. And, obviously, I totally agree with your points and conclusions.

Welcome to the fight, my friend.

I'm with you 100% Flagwaver

We may not always see eye to eye on all things, but on this one, you've got it absolutely right. It's almost as if you, Brian and I all sat down and composed the same basic message on three separate blogs at the same time without even knowing it. I suspect this indicates a pretty strong undercurrent within the conservative base. Why vote for a pseudo-Democrat (like Rudy) when you can get the real thing? At least the real thing has to take the heat for the way things go after they implement their stupid socialist policies.

Flagwaver

Thanks for your response.

I guess we all have to examine our hearts and vote our conscience...Thompson is looking really good right now, needless to say...

Meanwhile, back to your essay, the runaway congress continues it's Coup D'Etat...will they succeed in their mission?

Hey, Flag

I've got a new essay up at the Island. Check it out.

Flag, regarding pics

I answered over at my place, too, but for the pics, save the pic to your desktop from the source as a jpeg. Open it from there, then just use your mouse to copy and paste it into your essay.

Right click the source picture - "copy"

Blinking cursor in your essay, right click, "paste". You'll get a little pop-up asking if you want to "paste" and you click yes, and allow access to your clipboard. It's that easy.

Enjoy!

I don't remember the exact words

but Napoleon said that the French Revolution could have been stopped dead in its tracks with a volley of cannon fire. The French Revolution succeeded because Louis was a very weak ruler.

The present attempt to overthrow the American government could only have gone as far as it has because the president has been very weak in defending the country as well as his own administration.

Just like the playground bully, every inaction results in a direct and oppsite reaction.

Every time the president goes along with the subversives they advance their cause.

Until we have a president with balls we will witness the communistic subversion of our government, our country and our way of life.
