Plan B, what ever happened to Plan A?

Plan A

What happened to Plan A, as in abstinance, is that it never existed in the first place and that current experience shows that minors will have sex and will have unwanted pregnancies if Plan B is not available.

"Let he who is without sin among you..." talk about abstinance.

Plan A

Correct, and I understand and I also pointed that out in the post. If you read the whole thing that is. My problem is with the parents and their lack of communication with their children. The way children should be raised today is that sex is something that is special and not to be taken advantage of for many reasons. Once they are adults they can make up their own minds.
But your comment is correct - but studies show more and more teenagers are not having sex in high school, which, I guess, is a good sign.

Plan A

The problem with freedom, of course, is that it can be abused. I believe that people can sort this out for themselves.

Plan A

Hmmm. When I was growing up, abstinence, backed up by shame, was quite effective, as was the certain knowledge that intercourse has a strong probability of producing children, for whom one was expected to be responsible for the next 20 years. For those who think I'm an old-fogey, I'm merely middle-aged.

While it is true that a small subset of minors back then did indulge, they were usually looked down upon by everyone as "low-class." Unfortunately, during my years in high school (late 60s), the whole culture changed. When I started as a sophomore, dress-codes were de rigeur. Girls wore dresses, boys wore trousers. Three years later, everyone (except me, it seemed) wore jeans, and drugs were rampant. With the drugs came the idea that sex was cool. From what I can see, it's only gotten worse.

If we could practice abstinence, there's no reason kids can't practice it today, given a little encouragement--and there are probably a lot more kids practicing it now than you might think from reading the news rags.

According to your analogy...

Fritz et. al., I should be giving my child syringes for the heroin I expect them to use and ammunition for the guns that are so beautiful for them to experiment with.
The idea that a morally bankrupt '60's generation one day woke up and said, "sex with anyone you want is a 'beautiful' thing, should determine the course of society is dangerous.

I don't expect my child to use drugs, carry firearms, or engage in sex outside of a marriage relationship.
