A New Wave of Conservatism?

good argument, bad product

It's a good argument with a very bad product.

"Conscientious conservatives" is too long, clumsy, mis-spellable and can't even be abbreviated satisfactorily. (Sorry, "CC" is "Canadian Club" an excellent whiskey that has LONG been referred to thus).

Also, "conscientious conservatives" harkens to "conscientious objectors", a nose-wrinkler for those Americans who actually served their country when called.

Find a better label. Something short, punchy, dynamic.

This is one is an Edsel.

Young Conservatives

I think you have done a pretty good job of describing some of the currents among young conservatives. I have been involved with writing for and founding the first conservative student paper at the University of Georgia and have gotten to know an enthusiastic group of young conservatives. What I have seen in many of these writers is a Christian libertarian, if you will. Strong limited government principles grounded in Christianity. Most of my friends are also quite supportive of Bush's foreign policy. Keep track of my blog, I am trying to write everyday. Maybe we can get a dynamic set of young conservative bloggers together on townhall.

Somewhat

Although my views, opinions, and actions put me on the side of the Conservative, I have never liked the label. Not because of the political connotation. I believe that in every situation there is a right and a wrong thing to do. The problem arises when you don't want to do the right thing for whatever reason. This makes you neither conservative no liberal. I am not a relativist. I will try to find ways out of doing what is right just so I'll feel better.

I like your reference to J.C. Watts and Rick Santorum. Unfortunately people don't want firmness. They want a little wiggle room. A little wiggle room is what gets us into our problems.

I'm not big on labels but until something better comes along I think plain old Conservative will have to do. Its a Noun, adjective, and verb all by itself.

Good argument though.

Have to agree with heldmyw...

... but I would rather be a 'neo-con' than a 'con-con'. I'm not trying to be wise, but having been in advertising, I think the packaging is just too cumbersome.
