Steamed at "Stone's" Schiavo Satire

Rolling Stone is a disgusting piece of garbage. That said, you all MUST stop this hysteria about Terri Schiavo's death. Terri's brain was GONE, as found on autopsy. It was the consistency of jello, no wrinkles--which means no COGNITIVE function. Her "responses," if present, were reflexes which many people in vegetative states exhibit. As one neurologist said, if one cannot talk, walk, eat, take care of one's own needs, or otherwise function in any way, one IS terminally ill. Terminally ill people who do not receive hydration or feedings do NOT starve to death or die of thirst. Their bodies are often unable to handle nourishment anyway, and whether or not that is the case, they do not feel "hungry" or "thirsty" because they are no longer capable of such feelings.
