Comment on: RANT BRAZEN

Woodrow Wilson got off easy. Joe McCarthy got what Wilson deserved.

Thanks for the refresher course

on Wiley old Wilson and Much Maligned McCarthy.
I'm willing to bet that it'd be generous to estimate 15% of our citizenry as having an awareness of W. Wilson's dastardly deeds;while 30-35% still shiver at the mention of "Mc Carthyism". If ignorance is bliss, our electorate is one enormous blister. That's why we have an evil misfit in the WhiteHouse.

Good to have you back, Verne. GoodPost.

Ummm.....

Quote: "All of those accused of selling out America during the McCarthyite “witch hunts” were, needless to say, not Communists."

Pardon me, but that statement is factually incorrect.

Bobbie --- hey, we're back in the game!

You're the prettiest cheeleader on the whole squad, you know that? This Woody and Joe thing was a stumbleupon. It showed up in 'The Great Influenza' (1917-18) as a backdrop for the politics of that era. Blew me away to see how history has buried Wilson's dark past, and made McCarthy seem a man with no redeeming qualities at all. Glad you approve. Thank you! Verne.

PDX Dave

Look, if you're right, I'm euphoric. I wish that McCarthy had made no mistakes. But if you're right, prove it. Then come by the White House for a beer -- on Barry. Thanks for writing.

Verne

The Venona Papers confirm that certain individuals that McCarthy targeted were in fact Communist spies.

Alger Hiss for example. Soviet spy. The Russians confirm it, and historical records prove it.

So, the statement that all of the accused were innocent is incorrect. Many were guilty of not only being Communists or Communist sympathizers, but of being outright spies.

PDX

Dave, I like you. But you're getting on my nerves. Now break down this compound sentence I wrote to this: "All of those accused . . . were not Communists." That's what I wrote. And that's true. I merely meant that many were black-listed, but ALL were not PROVEN to be Communists. Now let's take what you wrote: "The statement that all of the accused were innocent is incorrect." Sure is incorrect. Look at it this way -- I did not write that NONE of those accused were Communists. SOME WERE. Are you coming around any? You and I both -- I think -- feel that old Joe was hunting game that was in season. But he didn't kill everything he shot at, did he? That would be too good to be true. Look, I'm going to bed. You owe me a case of beer. Verne.

Joe got

railroaded because he didn't have ACORN (or an ACORN like org.) to watch his back and keep the press out of his way.

GAR SWAFFER

Gar: Right on, sir. You know how the system works. It just galls me so much to see those smug Communist enemies-of-state swaggering around with immunity bought by big money, crooked government, and liberal media. Joe McCarthy got a raw deal, but has been demonized and villified with abandon -- because he was successful, patriotic, and courageous. Thanks for writing. You're right. The same system is in place today. I don't know if exposing it will be enough. We need to destroy it through legal means. Thanks for writing. Verne.

I recently joined the Heritage Founfation and began studying our nation's politiccal history. I found out about W. Wilson there.

I wrote a blog on the seperation of power and how Wilson wanted to destroy it. He was, in fact, the first fascist.

Verne

Barack Woodrow Obama? Woodrow Hussein Wilson? INTERESTING Parallels there!

glnflwrs

Hey, pal. Thanks for the note. I am going to enjoy following up on your Heritage Foundation experience. That's a noble move, sir. Just a chance encounter with the petulant Mr. Wilson's trail of wreckage has gotten me very interested in learning more about him. The liberals who ganged up on Joe McCarthy have neatly covered Woody's tracks as a despot. Let's work hard to get the jerk under the microscope. I'm with you. Verne.

Now I Know

why your blog is named, "Rant Brazen"! Great Rant! Well done, Verne! Sadly, my grandparents first child, a baby boy (Louis), died in the 1918 flu epidemic, along with so many others.

Growing up in the 50`s in a Harry Truman Democratic family, Joe McCarthy was considered the enemy. Knowing what I do today, I believe history will ultimately redeem him. We watch Glenn Beck sometimes and he always calls Woody Wilson the godfather of progressives. You have reaffirmed his case! Thanks for the history lesson, too!

Hello, you. Thanks for the nice compliments. Really appreciate them. I'm still into the Caplan book, "The Great Influenza". Pretty chilling. The author has done a great job of chronicaling not only the horrors of the epidemic, but also the politial tone of the times, which is where I read with much interest of the Wilson abuses of freedom of expression, freedom of the press, privacy issues, government spying, and "witch hunts" of the sort that had so many left-wing radicals in a snit when McCarthy became such an easy target. Those same revisionists would rather not stir the pot, though, regarding Woodie's transgressions. I think, as you, that history will redeem Senator McCarthy. I am convinced he was on target with most of his investigations into Communism in the U.S. government, media, unions, entertainment industry, etc. I went to our little family graveyard today in a small town in North Carolina. Heartfelt experience always. We lost many relatives in a diphtheria epidemic in the 1800s. You would enjoy this book, if you have time to get into it. Again, thanks very much for the gracious comments. Best regards, Verne.

Hey, you're gonna cause trouble with that kind of attitude. But keep it up. You're doing noble work! Hope you had a nice week-end. It was beautiful here in NC. Talk with you soon, Verne.
