I agree with all you say here, and would only add that I think an additional reason we're seeing this kind of talk is because gay rights has overtaken abortion rights as the main cause of the Left.

Don't you just wonder how anyone thinks there is a middle ground on this issue? Well, I do. On the Faithful Dems page, the articles all seem to stress the caustic attitude of Republican pro-lifers as poisoning the debate. Their, Democrats, principled approach to the absolute of "choice" is held as reasonable. The principled approach to the defense of human life is too "divisive" because we would be saying that anyone who had chosen to abort was wrong and that would hurt their feelings. One does get spirited in a debate of the issue when the principle of the thing, that an innocent human life requires protection under the law, is "supposed" to get lost in the politics.
