Apparently, we have regressed to the point that ANYTHING that can be hung on a candidate will be a noose around his/her neck. Better that this situation hadn't happened but as you say, we are not perfect and these things WILL happen. I give the daughter a pass on this as well as I would if the daughter had been Obama's daughter.

You hit the nail on the head! They are terrified of her and will stop at nothing to prevent her success. They know what she represents to us and how she has the potential to galvanize and mobilize millions of conservatives. I hear you on the running for office thing. Who wants to put their family through that?

But no one held a gun to Palin's head forcing her to accept the Veep offer.
Personally, I think the fact that Palin would CHOOSE to subject her child to all of this while in such a vulnerable state speaks volumes about Palin's character, or lack thereof.

You are absolutely right, sir. They had no compunction to throw Hillary under the bus and we shoulde not be surprised when they go after Sarah Pali also. We can only fight with ideas - and those ideological underpinnings of our lives are way better than the Left's. If you have a moment, on my blog at: http://slowpokethecruiser.blogtownhall.com/
You will find a letter I reproduced from an Alaska native supporting Mrs. Palin. You might like it.

Welcome and thanks for commenting. I cannot agree with your comment for two reasons. One, she is already a public figure. She began serving in her hometown over twelve years ago. The family is used to the limelight, just the smaller and more local limelight of Alaska. And no one, no matter what expectations they have that they will be under scrutiny, would expect the classless slime happening now. Of course, there were always slimy tabloid headlines about presidents kids and family members going back to Dolly Madison (who endured a lot of gossip as first lady nearly 200 years ago), but not to this extent. If that keeps people from seeking office, it weakens us all. I don't think I am capable of it (which I said in the post) but there is no call to belittle someone who is.

The Palin family are united in the love and the support they have for each other -- Governor Palin has taken on a new challenge for all the world to see upon the national stage in running for VP along side John McCain -- Sarah Palin would never put her family in the line of fire if she did not truly believe in their courage and strength to sustain these unfair and virulent attacks -- The non stop press coverage and innuendo they have received would break the strongest among us -- The Palins are first of all a family -- The rest of us are just observers of what it means to be a family -- McCain-Palin 2008! --

the Left does not understand Christians at all. They think we sit condescendingly judging everyone as less than ourselves. So when a Christian makes a mistake they think they can pounce and say "gotcha". You'd think by now after all this time they'd get it. But not if you're stuck on stupid.
I've a new post linking to the same from Garnet about the charges against Sarah Palin. You may find it interesting.

Bryce, exactly....
lets talk those issues and leave the family out of it....I am waiting to hear her on both.....Alaska is a sanctuary state I am hearing, but I have heard that it was named one in 2003....Considering Alaskas long coastline and huge Canadian border, she must have had some dealing with border security issues and I think that would be a valid thing for her to address. McCain-Feingold is a mess, but if she has a desire to end it, I think that would probably wait until she is a presidential candidate....much like Bush Sr had to toe the line and say he was pro life when he probably wasn't and accept supply side economics which he referred to as Voodoo economics as a candidate, when he served as Reagans VP....
Interestingly enough, Bush Sr. was derided as a moderate too, and did make some bad decisions, but despite that, without his appointment of Clarence Thomas, we would have a much more liberal court....between them the 2 Bush presidents have appointed three of our best Supreme Court justices.

I think issues like this show not just how out of touch Liberals are, but how out of touch inside the beltway politicians typically are. It is so easy to become arrogant when you have the type of power these people have, and that is why they are accountable to voters.

your statement that the Palin family asked for it and that shows Gov Palin to be of bad character is one of the most idiotic things I have ever seen posted at Townhall.
The left is completely perplexed as to how to deal with Palin. They fear her, but have no real ammo to use against her, so they stoop as far as they can. Notice that the conservative side of the media (what little there is of it) and the blogosphere would never go that route to attack a Dim-ocrat.
The leftist media has gone after Obama's questionable associations and scandals (and anti-Constitutionality) less in 19 months than they have in one week for Palin.

Yes there are and those are legitimate to ask....I also heartily disagreed with any criticism of Bill Clinton that extended to his daughter, and the only reason his wife was a valid target was when she tried to be politically active, such as her health care plan. While I find some of the statements of Michelle Obama disturbing, you will not find on my blog any discussion of her unless she is involved in political decisions. Legitimate questions on Palins record, her decision making, and her experience are valid. It is just as sexist to overprotect a candidate based on gender as it is to go after them for it.

Thanks for the comment. I have not been able to watch any of the convention yet because of work and classes, but I plan to watch Palins speech tonight and McCins tomorrow with my daughters just as I watched Obama with them last week. My nine year old is very insightful. She asked during Obamas speech why he was angry and when he said McCain was out of touch, she said "No he isn't" to the TV. I remember being 9 during the 1980 election, it was the first political awareness I had.

But this has nothing to do with women's issues. Believe me, if Obama or Biden CHOSE to enter the fray with a pregnant teenage daughter in tow, and THEN asked for privacy, I'd criticize them as well.
Partisanship aside, I find Palin's post facto calls for privacy reprehensible.

Women and Freedom to Choose
The left has made it one of their primary interests has been to proclaim that a woman has the same right as a man to pursue a successful career. Part of their argument has been that men and women are no different. To that end we have seen "feminization" of our laws (consider no dodge ball - too dangerous, no peanut butter -someone might be allergic, etc., etc., etc.) In their desire to be equal women have entered hallowed domains that used to be male and even fought for the right to fight beside men in war.
Enter Sarah Palin. Sarah is that woman that all the liberal women aspire to be. She has out-Pelosied Pelosi and out-Hillaried Hillary (because doggone it - Alaskans like her!) There are ceilings cracking all over the place!!!!! And yet somehow Sarah Palin is being raked over the coals for choosing to run for the second highest position in this land while raising a Downs syndrome baby and a pregnant 17-year-old daughter.
For the liberal media, liberal politicians, and the liberal public this is a no-brainer. How dare US magazine put a picture of Sarah and her family on the front of their magazine and have the headlines: "Sarah Palin; Babies, Lies, and Scandal." Single women and married women are all supposed to be able to pursue their dreams and how dare anyone tell them they can't do what they want with their own body or their own life (at equal pay too whether they earn it or not)!!!! Libs have made a race of super women who can do it all UNLESS she is a republican. Then like Powell and Thomas (who aren't really black), Rice (who isn't really a woman or black) and countless others, she is fodder for attacks on her lack of wisdom when it comes to being a mother. And we know all of us get our maternal wisdom from liberals.
I will pray that she is a leader sent to help this country regain her bearings as a nation that doesn't eat its own but gives each a chance to serve God and country with character and integrity.

Palin ought to be the embodiment of what women aspire to. A career and a supportive spouse who does his part to allow her to pursue her career and still be a part of raising a family.....The problem with it when anything negative occurs with the kids, the blame is aimed at the mom....
our kids choose to obey or disobey, we can be the best parents possible and they can still choose wrong. What liberals don't understand is that Christians are not, and don't claim to be perfect, they have been forgiven, and theoretically at least because they have recieved grace, they are more apt to be graceful to others....that is exemplified by love that does not end when a mistake is made.

Re Palin
I disagree with your assessment of Palin. She supported 2 bridges to nowhere and went back on one once it became unpopular. At the same time, she never returned the money for that project.
A real question, besides some other pork barrel issues, is how could she function as President if she had to replace McCain? Economically speaking, she is in an easy situation because her state is supported by oil.
The question that a friend and mine had was if Biden had to replace Obama, could we tolerate his pompous speech making? On the other hand, I found Palin to be extremely arrogant when giving her speech at the RNC.
My problem with both McCain and Obama is that they are way too conservative.
