SPIRITS AND THOSE WHO HAVE GONE BEFORE
I believe in angels. They must be everywhere. Otherwise I would not be here.
A confession, however: I've never talked to those whom I've loved who have gone on before me.
I've thought many, many times of my mother, who died at the age of 48. Many years have passed since then, and I fear I cannot say as you that I have done nothing to dishonor her. My father has been gone 20 years, and I fear I cannot say as you that I have done nothing to dishonor him. My sister, who has been gone now for 12 years, if she has hovered often, knows I am mortal.
Much too much humanity on my part.
I do talk to God. If such is prayer, then I pray. Mike Huckabee believes in getting down on his knees to pray (in privacy, of course -- I've never heard of him doing such in public). He is the only one out of the bunch of Democrats or Republicans who has made that statement.
On a tangent, Huckabee may be a "sleeper." One of these days he will awaken and startle us all into craving to vote for him. Perhaps a little magic thrown in here and there.
Anyway, Halloween has turned into a constant run to the door for a couple of hours, during which we can see the little ones (and some big, too), dressed up in their costumes, while we dole out candies to keep from being egged. Then it will be over, and parents will need to watch for cavities.
I am glad you find solace in conversations with your companions and friends and relatives who have left you. I am glad you know you will yet speak to them -- perhaps in a different "costume."

Thanks SF,your thoughtful response is greatly appreciated. Certainly the Bible tells us we are going to change our "costume." Sure hope so since this one is wearing pretty thin and beginning to look a litle shabby.

"Even so in Christ, shall all be made
alive..." Job proclaimed that though worms destroyed his body, yet in the flesh he would see God. He want on to proclaim that he knew that His Redeemer lives and that He would reign in the latter days (paraphrased - pardon the inaccuracy of inexact quote.). So do I believe these words.
Love is not limited to this sphere. Many people report the unseen comfort of loved ones no longer on earth. I had such an experience once and it was real and profound - and gave me great comfort and courage.
It is no accident that we call ourselves the Family of Man.
Poets and prophets sound the gong of hope of being with our loved ones again. What better reason than that to live honorably in this life.

It is that hope I continue clinging to. I don't know how I could live without such hope. Certainly it wouldn't be any kind of life for me.
