Dr. Spock Planted the Seeds of Socialism

What did I miss?? In 1971 I read Dr. Spock mostly to learn what to do about colic and getting the baby to sleep through the night. Somehow I managed to go on and raise three conservative, self-starting, hard-working kids who had no expectation that their father and I would be coming forth with all kinds of goodies to buy them off. Once again it comes down to "how were YOU raised?" and if you were provided with strong conservative values and lots of love and discipline (no hitting!), even Dr. Spock can't turn you into a socialist! By the way, I still recommend Dr. Marvin Gersch's book, "How to Raise Children at Home in your Spare Time," which you can get on Amazon for about a dollar. Funny and practical, though outdated in some ways; still, learning how to make formula from evaporated milk and Karo syrup is kind of a kick in this day of processsed EVERYTHING.
