Poems from Don

The second poem

Reminded me of a young Sergeant in 1944, in Belgium, so far away from the land he was born on, from our beloved Island of Puerto Rico. He died on the Battle of the Bulge.

His name was Sixto Rivera, my uncle, and he died at 23.

I have seing and met many heroes in my day, and those who stand for freedom, in my opinion, can be counted among them.

wow

Great poems. Very skilled and heartfelt.

Joe,

We all stand on the shoulders of men like your uncle. It has been said many times, but apparently not enough; too many take our hard fought freedoms for granted.

Eric,

Don is an exceptional human being; warrior, poet, and missionary among his resume. He truly does “walk the walk”.

Beautiful poetry

from a beautiful soul. Thanks for sharing. I would hope everybody would read these. Don't know how many he's written but they need to be published. Poets are usually prolific writers.
Something to consider.

Bobbie,

Not only do consider this material publishable, I’d hedge a bet that his journals, properly presented would make for a very interesting, entertaining, and meaningful book. Perhaps some day when he’s finished traveling.

BTW, I’m extremely grateful your hiatus as the BoB den mother was short lived.

OUTSTANDING! This guy is GREAT!

Thirty-three years ago I was a USMC Corporal and HS dropout; you could enter the Marines without a HS degree at that time. The first officer in my chain of command was Lt Donald Miller. Among other things, he actively encouraged me to start reading. He was persistent, (somewhat patient…LOL) and even gave me his old Alistair MacLean novels. I gobbled them up and haven’t stopped reading since. A Masters degree later, I have him, the USMC, and many others to thank.

Our military is the epitome of what our government can do right, and Don is indicative of all that is good with our country.

Poems From Don

Thanks for sharing these with us, ITK. It is very heartfelt and emotional poetry! Kleenex was required. Don was obviously a great influence and mentor to you!

“…a great influence and mentor to you!” And to literally thousands more across the globe.
