Do you think I am Racist Just Because...

On the race obsession

What is interesting is that as you point out here at TH there is still much discussion of the racial component of this election.

But thankfully most of the country is moving beyond race. Go to Huffington, DailyKos, MoveOn.org, the discussion is about the new cabinet, Afghanistan, GITMO, the economy. No discussion there about the color the the President elect's skin.

NO!

You are not a racist and neither am I.

But I have had to fend off allegations that I am because I supported John McCain.

Heres an idea, put a conservative on the ticket like JC Watts, Alan Keyes, or my buddy from Texas named William (a staunch conservative who happens to be black) and see if I am a racist!

On the race obsession

And those are interesting discussions, undoubtedly, but I think I'll pass on the invite.

I really wish you had read the post and taken some interest in my points, but at least you avoided the trash-mouth stuff.

Thanks for dropping by.

NO!

Brian, I have never been personally accused of being a racist, but it may be more likely to happen now. This discussion is the product of watching a lot of things being thrown back and forth for a couple of years now.

I'm not sure that I am that comfortable with Mr. Keyes any more (I once was), but I would fight like a dog for J, C. Watts!

Thanks for the comment!

I do not believe your reasons not to vote for Obama are indicative of racism. If you, like myself, carefully considered all relative aspects of the two candidates you would, most likely, come to the same logical conclusion that only McCain has any respect and loyalty to the traditions and core values of this nation.

I have looked forward to the day when a black person or female received enough support to run for the presidency. I sincerely believe that if the black or female were as acceptable to me as their opponent I would vote for the black or female just for the reason they would be breaking new ground and I could be a part of that. But, I could never compromise my priniples by voting for anyone professing policies I don't believe in.

It would be easy for me to vote for a Barbara Jordan, Bill Cosby, or even Dr. Rice if their platform was right. There are many people of a darker shade of brown than me who are not only capable, but deserving of my support as well.

I may decide some issues with race being a factor, but that is not synonymous with racism.

Good post.

Gepaza! Very challenging essay and your thoughtful response to bryce1 is noted! Now the left has transcended race! Justice Thomas and Michael Steele are only two examples of how the left rewards achievement and accepts the differences and ideas of black Conservatives. These two men are self-reliant, not victims and, therefore, do not/will not buy into the liberal ideology. Of course, these qualities have made them open targets for destruction by the MSM and others. In the case of Justice Thomas, I became a conservative during his hearings and never looked back. I was appalled at the hypocrasy of the Dems on the Judicial Committee, Teddy Kennedy and especially, Joe Biden.

I certainly concur with your conclusions about respect and loyalty to traditions and core values!

I never appreciated Barbara Jordan until she was gone, but you are right about her. Bill Cosby is one of my all-time heroes.

Thanks for the post.

dawndawn, how nice of you to drop in again! And thanks for the kind words.

Michael Steele is definitely another name that I should have added.

To paraphrase one of the dumbest people we have ever had in our government, Madeline Allbright, there should be a special place in hell for the people who treat their brothers that way!

NOT VICTIMS! What a concept!

Oops

I don't mean your racist. But racist people who call us racist.

Racist and Oops

I did go to your site and left some droppings there. It is a good post!

Thanks for coming by.

It is always hard to discuss race when you are white (and I am very white). There are those who will call you racist simply for bringing the topic up.
Largely because of this, I've come up with my own counter argument. You see, those of us with Red Hair are a smaller minority than blacks or "latinos". As such, I've created my own group, the Crimson Apex Solidarity Horde. You can see more about it at my place, or by simply going here:

Redhead

Sadly, sadly true!

Being left-handed, I have a true appreciation of your pain and the need for CASH!

I will be back to read more of your work soon.

Thanks for stoppingby.
