Romans 6, 7 and 8 show us that if you are in Christ Jesus then you are free from sin. Jesus restored righteous to his children.

Yes free from sin, but slaves to righteousness.

Matt 28 we are given the responsibility to share the gospel with others.
So we are to be righteous for the sake of others not for ourselves. When we are righteous others see Jesus in us therefore we have a greater opportunity to share Jesus with them. That is our calling as Christians.
