"I apologize for saying the Republican-controlled Congress was spending vast sums of money."
*********************
Don't understand why you would apologize. They were spending vast sums of money and it was wrong.
IMO, the difference between then and now is, we have Legislative and Executive branches who are NOW using this approach to fundamentally change our Republic.
Thanx for the link to the WSJ article -- great post!

Thank you for the link. Good article. So glad we are just spending money like there is no tomorrow.
Instead of this bill, just give us all printing presses. When we need money, we just go to the press and print away.
Talk about running amuck, this is it. Amuck, they will run.

So...You think the Dems have spent alot ?? Consider this. Obama has been in office less than a month. Imagine, if you will, what he'll be able to do with OUR checkbook by the time his first term ends....And if you really want creepy music....Imagine the theme from Outer Limits playing at full volume while Rod Serling reads a list of what the money is being spent on.
Maybe better to have the list read by Porky Pig while playing the Looney Tunes theme.

D*mn, even the colors will be correct!

Sorry if I "dissed" Porky. Although you must admit, the name and the anthem are surely fitting for the current environment in D.C.
Time allowing, when things slow down here, perhaps we'll have time for a chat some evening. A further search of the ol' family tree.
As far as Biden is concerned....May I recommend Donald Duck instead of Porky. Then he and Barack would both be ducks. You know, if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck......haha !

second: A question regarding the % of GDP I didn't see a definitive answer for and which one of the Econ Majors might have an answer for.
Is the housing bubble used as part of the GDP number?
If so, the GOP was wasting more money on fizzwater, foofoo water and questionably oriented whores than the graph shows.

I don't believe that the American "Character" has dropped that low. But the fight will be "uphill" all the way. So many of our large cities have gone over to the "Dark Side of the Force" and are no longer willing to take charge of their own lives.
But in the "rural areas" I believe it is different. Here in Mississippi I still see people willing to get the job done no matter what the odds.

And that mentality is scary and it is growing. What happened to working for things? That seems to have disappeared and maybe never to be seen from again.
During the election and even after, I would listen to people in the stores and banks and how they were going to get free education, health care, etc. It just blew me away.
I remember years ago when I was in my 20's, I had to sell pretty much everything I had and I remember vowing that this would never happen to me again and it hasn't. I have never expected the government to give me checks and take care of me. But it seems we have a new wave of people that feel the government is there to take care of them.

Example of why you're right, Ghost...
We have a President going out and spending over $700 BILLION and at least ONE of the newspapers I know of (NY Newsday) is asking, 'is it enough?' on the cover this morning.
It's lovely how people LOVE to spend money when it's NOT THEIR MONEY. As long as it isn't theirs, they have absolutely no problems... but I can imagine we'll hear them shriek when it starts affecting them.
IF they even bother to pay their taxes, considering our new Secretary of the Treasury didn't bother, and that is, if you ask me, really an example of the corruption already coming in to this organization.
Corruption that is going to go much, much further, and much, much deeper.
An example of where that money is going (and that corruption)... more than $1 Billion (I think it's closer to $4 Billion) is going to ACORN, an organization under indictment in multiple states for VOTER FRAUD.
I would say it is obvious whom they support.

We had a great time in Monroe. Lot's of talking and playing with the grandchildren.
In regards to the "stimulus package", I wish I had some plan of action. But at this point, all I can see to do is contained in these three words: Wait and Hope.
"Wait" because short of open rebellion, that is all we can do. The time may come for that option; but we are not there yet. You and I both will recognize that time when it comes.
"Hope" because as Christians this is what we must do; thru prayer to God, allowing Him to call the shots, and not going "off the deep end".
"The Count of Monte Cristo" calls these three words the most important in the human language; and with a few reservations, I agree.
