Great post. I especially love the stairs analogy. But to be honest, I'm a little nervous. The only steps I have are to the basement, requiring a door to be opened. Does that mean I have a concealed staircase? Am I an outlaw? Well screw 'em. They'll get my staircase when they pry it...uh...well...never mind.
btw...We have those same ridiculous "no guns allowed" signs here in Missouri. They do nothing except make the people posting them feel better about themselves. Until they get shot I suppose.

You should be nervous, why would you own something so dangerous in your home? Do you not care about your children? But, maybe if you put a lock on the door to your stairs and throw the key into the deepest well you can find your soul can be redeemed. Yea, the no guns allowed signs should be changed to say, "Please Rob My Store, 'Cause No Guns Are Allowed".

I thought drugs were already criminalized, but you must mean SHOULD they be. Well, as far as I know there is not anything in the Constitution implicitly protecting a citizens right to keep and use drugs. Aside from that, decriminalizing drugs is to beg the question that drugs are amoral (like a gun is) and there effect on society depends on who the possessor is. I don't think that is true. Drugs alter all the mind of any user rendering them unable to function as a responsible citizen. So, I guess I am in favor of drugs being illegal.

Actually, I meant exactly what was stated.
"..there is not anything in the Constitution implicitly protecting a citizens right to keep and use" cars and or stairs either.
"Drugs alter all the mind of any user rendering them unable to function as a responsible citizen."
So does alcohol. SHOULD alcohol be outlawed? Nyquil(R) has some adverse affects too.

Yes, Nyquil should be outlawed. No one can be trusted with it. Hey, I guess I don't really see the parallel between outlawing guns and outlawing drugs. Every person has a basic human right to self defense but not to being high. Should the decision be left to the individual on whether they get high or not? Sure. And prostitution and abortion and Sodomites marrying and Polygamy should all be made legal too. Drugs are illegal because it is inherently understood that their use is immoral. Am I hitting the mark?

I'm goading you in order to learn yours.
Our Constitution states that We have a right to bear arms but does not mention anything about drugs or prostitution. Abortion is a violation of the "Right to Life" that is stated in the Constitution.
Amendment 10 tells Us that those that are not mentioned in the Constitution are left for the States to decide.

This is off thread, but I responded to a comment you left at Kimberly's "Views Of a Transexual Woman" blog.

Quite a few people in the Republican Party have made it an issue. Mike Adams and Keven McCullough scream about us quite a bit. Generally, they hate the idea that trans people want to go to work without fear of harrasement and assault, and to be able to live somewhere without fear of eviction.
Note that I am a life-long Republican, even though there are elements in my party that regard me as satanic, delusional or evil. I'm not the one trying to make this a political issue. I'd really rather not be noticed at all, but some religious folks can't leave well enough alone.
Also, my blog is updated regarding the President's speech.

I'm tracking with ya now. Point well taken...Amendment Ten. I love being goaded...it makes me smarter. Thanks. (but it is too bad that any power the States should have is being robbed from them by the runaway judges)

Oh, to live in Kansas
Here in Cal-e-forn-ya it is no better. Conventional wisdom is that if you shot someone robbing your home and you shoot him (her?), you better make sure: one, they are dead; two, if not IN your house, drag them back into your house. Also, I had a friend that had property in the desert, which had been broken into several times. He was told to booby trap the entrance with explosives and post signs to that effect. He casually mentioned that he would put the explosives near the entrance so that he wouldn’t kill someone. HE was warned that if he only in juried someone that he would probably be sued, or that if he only frightened them, they would destroy the property. I’m sure this makes perfect sense to our left leaning friends like my two wack-o senators, but I for one am dumbfounded.

Come on down to the Land of OZ, where you are free to conceal and carry except when you aren't. No one is sure when it is legal and when it's not, but it still sounds better than the mixed up state of Illinois, eh? We could always use more intelligent, freedom loving people here!

That may be true. Did anyone ever tell that to Slick Willy? And you know his lovely bride thinks the following quote is pure wisdom as well.
"When we got organized as a country and we wrote a fairly radical Constitution with a radical Bill of Rights, giving a radical amount of individual freedom to Americans ... And so a lot of people say there's too much personal freedom. When personal freedom's being abused, you have to move to limit it. That's what we did in the announcement I made last weekend on the public housing projects, about how we're going to have weapon sweeps and more things like that to try to make people safer in their communities." -Bill Clinton
