Besides not protect anything... They are hording/corralling us into a corner as far as not using our natural resources and dig our way out of this mess. It's now for their use and to insure we have no place to go when it's time to run for the hills.

As we all know the Green Agenda is simply Socialism framed in nice conservation terms. This putting more land out of the reach of energy developers, and this is the whole shebang, is to keep the GW carbon off set crowd happy. It is nonsense as you know. What is galling is that Obama never made a comment about energy except trillions for WIND. Now that is silly. No car will get people to work except by oil and gas. But, we are stuck because elections have consequences and the Pubs and conservs who stayed home plus Libertarians who thought they mattered electorally, put the Messiah and even more tax and spend Dems in charge. America will rue that election day.

Dean. Great catch...
All of these historic "Wilderness" bills have led to very questionable exploitation of the very lands they "save from the damnable capitalists." The natural resources on these lands are exploited. Mysteriously "developed." Private landing strips and dachas are built in some of the most pristine preserves. When driving the highways or flying over the fertile forests of these desolate regions, I observe "invasive" activities that were procsribed by the "Wilderness Laws." How can this be? Who are these shadowy folks with black hats and private jets?

Yes, I hang my head in shame to be stuck with those two red menaces as my voice in the Senate. It is a waste of time to email them but it is my civic duty to do so. Us redheaded stepchildren here on the east side of my state have no recourse or redress in the senate.
Tom Coburn is TRYING to do all he can but I see it as a losing battle as he does not have the necessary support. The commies will take our rights away one little bit at a time and all we can do is watch, weep and let the tea steep.

Indeed, they could be used that way. What makes me so angry is the wording in this bill makes US CITIZENS criminals if they trespass upon their own land. Who the h*ll do they think they are to make such laws???

The reason it wasn't covered by the MSM is the same reason it was brought to a vote on a Sunday. They wanted to keep it under the radar so the silent majority would not even notice it. Our country is going broke and this bill was PACKED full of Pork. What a bunch of asshats.
I dont envy your position being surrounded by loonies. I did notice the small blurb in the news witnessing the mass exodus from CA by residents there. I wonder who they will tax when everyone leaves but the illegal aliens?

Having been raised in Michigan, I have an affinity for Wilderness and it's importance to our survival. But we can harvest energy without harming the environment, this is all a political power play that scares me. The GOP electors chanting "drill baby drill!" at the GOP convention must have really gotten their attention.

I know what you mean Dave, I also like Wilderness but I think there must be a limit on how much they lock up. I was born in Northern Idaho and lived most of my life except for my service time up in this area. The state of Idaho has a huge percentage of it's land locked up in Wilderness areas.
One thing that has always bothered me about Wilderness areas is the fact that they do not even allow the managers to use powered equipment, i.e. chain saws, etc... Consequently the trail system that used to be superbly taken care of are now falling into ruins. They do not have enough manpower to keep them clear with hand tools. Not to mention allowing naturally caused fires to run their course. That is just stupid management. Look at the Yellowstone fire.
I just do not agree with locking our citizens out of THEIR land as some of this bill will do with penalties for even setting foot on the land.
