A Socialist City Upon a Hill

Just so you know

Citgo is owned by Chavez and Venezuela.

Don't buy Citgo gas or products!

All I can say is

what a nut job. Now,if you told me he was gonna build a *new city* from scratch and fill it with the crimminals and other dregs of Caracas society I'd believe it.Isn't that what Stalin & Hitler did to get rid of their undesirables?

Wow. No socialist has ever tried to build a perfect city (or a perfect society).

And they've all turned out so well.

We're likely witnessing the genesis of another communist mass murder, this time in Venezuela. It seems so harmless now. Although that was likely the initial reaction to the Ukrainian famine, the Cultural Revolution, or Minh's murder of people who wore eyeglasses.

Sick.

Reversing cause & effect

BrianR, Doc, USA Eagle & mgraves,

Thanks for your comments.

BrianR: I stopped buying from Citgo about 2 yrs ago, when I made the connection between Citgo and Chavez.

This story caught my attention because it is a classic case of the reversal of cause and effect.

Socialists genuinely believe that:

* if they build gleaming shopping malls and parking lots, the merchandise and cars will somehow materialize to fulfil the demand

THE REALITY: it takes the existence of a successful, profit-driven, ownership-based market economy to make possible the supply of goods to meet the demand.

Chavez (and his ilk) believe that the gleaming cities in the US and other semi-capitalist countries are the CAUSE, rather than the EFFECT of affluence.

By using his windfall oil profits, he seeks to build shining cities, foolishly imitating what he has seen in capitalist countries. He believes that the existence of those buildings will somehow CREATE the virtues (innovation, hard work and creative risk taking) that come from Capitalism.

If he had half a brain, he would realize that he would be better off privatizing & de-controlling his economy while freeing his people. In a decade or two, a thriving economy would CREATE those self-sustaining, shining new cities - instead of these monuments to his stupidity.

These cities are doomed to become grime-encrusted cesspools that will fall apart under their own weight.

Time for a shameless plug for my new essay "Murder and Roe", and also for a great new fiction series started by Phoenix Lady at her blog, here:

I really recommend it.
