Townhall.com Code Updates & New Features

Issues

Josue stopped by my blog (http://analogkid.townhall.com/Default.aspx) and noted that I had written some feedback on the text editor used for posting. There were definitely some issues that you have fixed, but there are several others there that still haven't been resolved (actually, it looks like you did put a new build into production, so some of this stuff might be fixed).

I'm using Firefox 1.0.7 on a WinXP computer.

FWIW, I'm still having issues with:

1) The insertion point: when I c&p something into the text editor it always pastes at the beginning of the post and takes the format for the text I have there. Same thing goes for using the linking tool. No matter where I want to insert the link, it gets inserted at the beginning of the post, taking the formatting that is there.
2) A lot of the stylistic changes that I mentioned in my post still aren't changed. These are feature (not bug) fixes, but at least some of them are important. See my post on July 9th.
3) My name still shows up as AnalogKid even though I changed my preferred screen name to be John. This would be important if the poster's name actually showed up (see #2)
4) I _really_ want to be able to write raw html into the text editor without it being un-encoded. I suggested that this might require a low-tech text editor, but that would be a good thing.
5. For long posts, you should be able to hide text after a page or a bump. This might have been your solution to Yoni's blog - I dunno, but it's a worthwhile thing to do.
6. You need to be able to use blockquotes (the html kind) to set off quotes and text, rather than simply using indention. So: indention from both sides of the post, and a different background color. That's the diff.

Thanks for reading.

Problem Posting Comments

Not sure if this will even work - having lots of trouble posting comments. Always get error.

My Featured Posts links don't work

They did at one point, but they don't anymore. Interesting.

Are you in Richmond; not Alexandria? I get over to Richmond every once in a while; I live in the Tidewater area.

Montey: Sorry 'bout that. The links to user blogs on a user's name introduced a bug throughout the site that was fixed yesterday.

ianflemming: Thanks for the heads up. We'll get that resolved today.

Richmond

Oh, and yes, I'm in Richmond. Our editorial staff is out of DC, but my team works at the Salem Web Network offices in Chesterfield. I'm not sure where Tidewater is exactly though, I just moved here in March.

What is wrong with posting comments?

Again, not sure if this will work. The bug must be still there, since can hardly ever post comments.

What is going to be done?

Montey:
Can you email me some steps to reproduce the problem? Is it happening on a specific article?

pictures

A couple things I'm having problems with

1. I haven't been able to insert pictures (they were smaller than the 400kb max)

2. My toolbox sure has fewer options than what is available in the Help menu. Will I be able change the toolbars?

3. How do I put an RSS in my blog?

I'm sure these are simple questions. Sorry for the ignorance.

James Biga:

1.) I'm not sure what you mean? We don't offer any way of uploading images.
2.) We have disabled some features of the editor for simplicities sake and for security purposes.
3.) Your RSS feed is http://rss.townhall.com/yourblogs/bigasrants
