Regarding Marilyn Manson's Lyrics

first one (Get Your Gunn)
-was written about the murder of abortion doctor David Gunn by pro-life activists. (hence the spelling of the title) The lyrics describe Manson's feelings towards the hypocritic, self-righteous killers, and society's own responsibility for such tragedies.

2nd one (Lunchbox)
-like many people you misinterpreted this song to be about guns. It is not. It is about how in 1979 metal lunchboxes were banned in the US because they could be used as weapons, and how Manson himself had fended off bullies as a child using his metal Kiss lunchbox. The video for this song depicts exactly this story.

3rd one (I Don't Like the Drugs But the Drugs Like Me)
-is about television and its brainwashing effect on kids. That's why he says "raised to be stupid, taught to be nothing at all". He's saying too much TV makes you dumb, and it does! After Columbine Manson wrote an essay titled "I Don't Like the Media but the Media Likes Me" revealing what was represented by the symbol of "drugs". In the video for this song Manson drags a cross made of blinking TV's, as if to suggest humanity's dying and television is the cross they nailed it to.

Art is not obvious or literal, and Marilyn Manson's art is not for children - like it says on the label. It takes a little research even for an adult to understand it.

I get the point of your article - and I agree that America is behaving like a bunch of animals lately - but Marilyn Manson agrees with you: "You live with apes, man, it's hard to be clean." And he blames many of the same devils as you - namely the entertainment industry, too much TV and not enough family.

I agree with this myself, although I don't believe the only solution is religion. If you have any further questions about Marilyn Manson's work, feel free to contact me at csprissler@hotmail.com.
