Well said Ed. I too don't remember exactly, as I was only a child when Kennedy was in office, and I believe Smerconish was not born yet himself.

I have never heard that there was a "terrible" climate during his administration. My own parents were then Democrats, and like most people of Irish decent loved the man. I will attempt to find more about the subject myself!
