The Culture of Public Education

Roots

Maybe this sounds like a sort of chicken/egg conundrum, but I sometimes wonder what the roots of all this PCism in education are.

My favorite scapegoat is, of course, the 60's and 70's feel good, pot-smoking, hippy-dippy flowerchild era. It spawned a load of rebellious, oversexed social retards who ended up, as all oversexed hippies do, having children.

Unfortunately since these rejects never learned to value anything other than sex and drugs, they had no values of substance to teach to their children. Everything was about peace, love, and keeping everyone happy. Those ideas aren't horrible on thier face, but when they aren't backed by discipline, self-respect, decency, and moderation they create a generation of narcissistic pansies.

It gets worse though, because not only did these flowerchildren become parents, they became teachers as well. They threw out the old methods that worked, banded together to form unions to fight thier eternal enemy, "the establishment," and eventually formed a powerful lobby. Other flowerchildren who became politicians banded with these unions and created the bureacratic power structure you see today.

That's my theory anyway. I'm sure you have a better/more accurate one.
