What Happened to MLK'S Dream
If I said that the possibility of seeing the first black president in my lifetime wa snot appealing to me, I'd be lying. Growing up as a little boy, and throughout my teenage years, if someone asked me if I thought we would ever see a black president, my response would always be...not in MY lifetime. So fast-forward a few years and here we are, the possibility of having a black president. Since my youth I've gone through a lot of changes personally and spiritually.

The possibility of having the very first black American president in the White House. However, we should not base our vote on this. We don't go to the polls to vote just for race but for someone's ideology. Obama is the most liberal senator in the senate. It is for this reason that we must not vote for him. It's not race, it's more about the changes he'll usher in. We will loose more of our freedoms if he is elected to office.

MLK dream continued..
I gave my life to Christ (along with my wife) almost four years ago. Reading Rev. King's speech today there was one verse that stood out..."And this will be the day, this will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with new meaning:
My country 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing.
Land where my fathers died, land of the Pilgrim's pride,
From every mountainside, let freedom ring!
And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true.
MLK states that for us to become a great nation, ALL God's children will be able to sing. The media tell sus that Americans are concerned with the economy, and the War in Iraq. As a follower of Christ, I allow God to handle my finances and I put my trustin the Lord to see me through. In regards to the war, no one like swar, but when a country not devoted to Christ attacks or tries to overpower a smaller, less equiped country, or attacksus, then as a country "Under God" it is our duty to respond.
It seems that the forgotten issue is the issue of Roe v. Wade.

What Happened to MLK'S Dream..con't
It seems that the forgotten issue is the issue of Roe v. Wade.
Since 01/22/1973 the date abortions became legal, there have been over 55,000,000 abortions in the U.S alone. That's 20,000,000 more than every U.S. casualty in every war since the American Revolution, every Jew killed in the Holocaust, every African American killed during slavery, every Native American kileed since 1776,and every AIDS related death in the world wide since 1981 - COMBINED!
Abortion is the NEW number one cause of death. As a Christian, I can not vote for someone who is going to allow this to continue without a fight. The Bible says that God knew us when we were formed in the womb. Pro-Choice advocates may say that a fetus is not a "life" or not a "real person" Well that is the same attitude Natzis had towards Jews, and that European whites had towards Blacks..that they were not fully human, and worthy of life.
So as much as I would love to see the day we have a black president...I pray this is not the year. I am a Christian first, a husband second, a father third. The color of my skin is nothing but a part of my physical description. It has never been or never wil be who I am.

Yes, the color of someone's skin should not determine who we vote for. It is the content of their character and their ideology (belief system). Barack's is too radical for a free society. It's going to be interesting given the mood of the electorate with a liberal media driving much of his campaign.
You know I am not prejudice because of my son-in-law I have graciously accepted into our family. However, it will ironic that blacks where once under slavery in this nation, an unfortunate and regrettable part of our history. However, the irony is that perhaps the first black president will put us all under the yoke of slavery via socialism.

Wake up and smell the fallacies!
There are so many fallacies in this article, its truely embarrassing!
First, This article says that who are past associactions are reflect on our character. How many of you have been associated with oeople that don't reflect your character? Its unaviodable! Think about some coworkers that you may have or people you went to high scool with or fellow neighbors. we all have bad "associates" in our past or present. If you don't then you are living in a bubble!
This article also states that character no longer matters because Obama is winning in the polls! Does it ever state any of McCain's character flaws? Like when he cheated on his first wife that led to there divorce or when he attended an abortion rally and stood by while people called for the death of doctors who perform abortions and did nothing! Is this the type of character you want in the white house?
Third, this article is saying that blacks are too dumb to vote on the issues, that they vote based exclusively on race. How far has Dr. King's message come when we have people who are this ot of touch with the black voter?
Finally, this article states that certain people that Obama has came in contact with are his mentors. This is a huge stretch and a typical republican tactic of mis information. Think of who your mentors are. A mentor is someone you look up to and seek advice from. Niether of these things apply to the people staed in the article.
One thing that is true is that Republicans typically think the American voter is naive and stupid, so they come up with scare tactics like these to try to get you to vote for them. Show them you're too intelligent to fall for this jibberish!

In response to "Joel's Brother" let me just say that in my own personal experience when I have mentioned to other black Americans (Yes, I myself am a black American) that I am voting for McCain, most of the reactions I have gotten are that I ma a traitor to my race, or I am not a "true black man". So, though not every single black person that votes for Obama isn't doing it based on race, there are a large number who are. And anyone who beleives that this isn't the case, is out of touch with American reality. There will be people (not just blacks) who will vote for Obama just because he's not "the same-old white guy". There will be people who don't vote for Obama because he's NOT "the same-old white guy". In any event, it's an ignorant vote. Another large group of voters are being influenced by the media and Hollywood. "If Sheryl Crowe, or Jay-Z, or Ellen Degeneres says vote for Obama, than that's what I better do, cause Hollywood is cool, and I want to be cool."

Obama has been celebritized (not his fault. One of the definitions of "character" is- qualities of honesty, courage, or the like; integrity. A person can be intelligent, well-spoken, nice and polite, but still lack integrity. Obama says he is pro-life personally, but he would sign bills that would keep in place Roe v. Wade. this is not demonstarting good character. To do something outside of what you say you trully believe just because that's what the popular consensus is, is a lack of integrity. And yes, the people you surround yourself with does influence how you think. The Bible does warn to stay clear of negative influences, and to do it quickly, not just when that person comes into the public eye and says or does something that is tarnishing your image. If he didn't agree with what Rev. Wright said than why did he attend his church for 20 years. Rev. Wright didn't just have those beleifs yesterday. And no, character and moral values aren't important to people anymore. If you don't beleive me, just Google past polls when Americans were asked what was important to them and you'll see that "character or values" ranks towards the bottom behind the economy, the war, health care, immigration, and others. Republicans don't use scare tactics, the media does. And the media is beating the econonmy situation into the ground and putting that fear into the minds of Americans ancross the Nation. Hopefully, the Americans "Under God" will not vote in fear of the economy, and will put their trust in the Lord to see them through their financial situations.

MLK's Dream, abortion and race.
It amazes me that people have such an issue voting for a candidate that is pro-abortion while having no issue with one who is pro-death penalty. If life is sacred (and I believe it is) then abortion is indeed murder and a sin. At what point, in our Lord's eyes, do you think life becomes unsacred and therefore open to taking? I believe that a Christian who is pro-life and pro-death penalty is in conflict with the life is sacred at all times principle. It is difficult to pull the level of either candidate because they both violate this principle. As for MLK and race....get over justifying whether or not you are racist. Only you and the Lord truly know your heart so why the need to validate your position to others? I have read and heard valid, lucid, and objective reasons in favor of and against both candidates, Pray, ask for guidance, and then follow your heart.

David,
I don't want to turn this discussion about the death penalty but Paul, the great apostle, refers to it in Romans 13:1-5. Paul instructs Christians to submit themselves to the authority of the state, because "The authorities that exist have been established by God." Referring to the authorities, Paul writes in Verse 4:
For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.
The "sword" could mean anywhere from formal punishment of doing time in prison to the death penalty. You see David, the death penalty, maybe the only justice some people get in this life. As individuals we are forbidden to take a life, but in Romans allowance is given by "God" to give the state authority to assert authority in the lives of lawless men.
King David called for the death penalty on the spot in many cases, as king he had full authority to do so. David, you miss the essence of the article by bringing up pro-life and race issues.

The difference between Obama and McBush regarding abortion ( which in my opinion is a non-issue in this campaign) is that Obama truely understands his role by not imposing his religious beliefs on abortion onto the country as a whole. If you feel the need to impose your religious beliefs, then politics is not your place. Go be a reverend or a pastor!

You know why "character and Values" ranks toward the bottom? Beacause these are things that can be and should be handled in each American household. The Government has more important issues at stake that the American family can't control. Like Health care, the economy, the war and immigration. Take the initiative to shape the values in your own family and don't depend on the government to do so!

David & Joel's Brother
You are absolutely correct Joel's Brother. Bush was appointed by God. We may not understand God's reasons for appointing people to positions of authority, but he always has a plan, and he is always just. So though I pray Obama does not win, I beleive that if he does God knows what he's doing. And abortion is not a religous issue. You can be atheist, agnostic, or beleive in aliens and still beleive that abortion is wrong. It's a moral issue. It's not just Christians who are against it. We need to vote based on values, and Biblical priciples because the entire fabric of our country is based on the Word of God. examples: All men created equal-Constitution (There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus -Galatians 3:28) Creation not evolution - Declaration (In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1) There are many many others. Say the Pledge, look at your currency, Under God is all around us passed down from our forefathers.

The constitition says nothing about the seperation of Church and State. All it says is "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." Religous beliefs have been "imposed" on politics since politics were established in America.

His election is historic to say the least, congratulations! However, this does not mean that the Republican party are racists for not voting for him. Why do you have to turn the conversation in that direction. He is a radical, left winger. He will be criticized from that perspective not his skin color so be very careful how you form your words.
When a Hispanic comes into office I am not voting for him or her because they are Hispanic. I will vote based on their beliefs and record, and if they align with mine. I hope you do so to.
