Endangered Free Speech

Responsibility
Modern people seem to think that all speech is acceptable, unless they don't like it, and then they refuse to assign responsibility to those who do the speaking. I may have a right to spew hatred. However, if this hatred leads to actions that cause danger or death to another, you, as the speaker, are accountable for this action. With rights come responsibility. Without responsibility the right is meaningless and anarchy ensues.

A voice of reason
Thank you for the reminder and warning concerning the First Amendment right of free speech. Your argument is moderate and yet urgent. Once again, you epitomize a voice of reason.

Biga-Liberty with no responsibility...
...is license, and as you say, anarchy ensues. The problem is that we have developed the mentality that only the govenment can enforce responsibility, the worse thing we can do given that government does very little right or well other than accrue power. However, by denigrating religion, families, traditional education etc. the Liberals have left us with no real models or examples for exercising responsibility, and they have totally destroyed the concept of "shame" [because it hurts people's feelings] one of the greatest regulators of mankind's base instincts. We are left with a mess.

Blame
I used to blame the freaks from the 60's. Now that I am older I realize that it wasn't them, it was the appeasement of the older generations that let these ideas and actions infect our society. However, blame, at this point, solves nothing. Discipline, Responsibility, Accountability, Integrity, and Humility must be re-infused into our society or we will go the way of Egypt, Greece, Rome, and Europe. Only ours will be a nastier death.
