One Boneheaded Statement
'He said that "Several million people cannot be wrong."'
One need look no further than the last election to disprove this statement.
I can think of many others.
All he needs to do to correct his statement is add "Well-informed" after "Several million," and that would exclude many of my examples, including the Obama election.

At least he meant it in the correct context, despite maybe needing to be more specific. But the statement was in response to a question in the audience about how the media treated townhall goers over the summer and the 9-12 march on washington.

One even more amazing stat he gave us was that he sent out mailers about the healthcare bill and the results he got back showed that only 6% of our district WANTS a public option. That's not a whole hell of a lot of people in such a heavily populated district, especially PA being such a blue state.

instead of arguing over minutae...
...our lawmakers should ask one simple question.
Is it Constitutional?
If not, then there's no sense in going further.
If we could just get them to ask that simple question, we'd be in Much better shape.
Murphy seems to have his head on straight which is a big improvement over 90% of the idiots in congress.

I think it is very sad (and pathetic) that even with whatever passes for health care reform, health insurnance reform(WTH we are calling it these days), they keep trying to cram things (pork) into the bill.
Can't just for once, they think about the American people? Just once...I guess that would be too much to ask.

...you're a sweetheart. Good article.
I agree with Jackpine, though. How many Representatives and Senators, as well as some TV commentators and legal scholars, do we have to hear ADMIT that what Team Obama and the Congressional Dems are doing is NOT constitutional before enough of them get together and DO something to STOP it?!
I mean, they all took an OATH to DEFEND the Constitution, for goodness sakes! Yet while admitting that Obama et al. are ignoring it, they almost seem to say, "Yeah, yeah, but, moving right along..." WTH!!
There are Republicans and conservatives (not necessarily the same thing any more) in Congress who should make a point any time they have the floor in the Senate or the House to raise hell about the unconstitutionality of whatever is being debated, if that's the case, and to demand hearings on that subject alone, before anything else about it is debated, much less voted on.
If enough of them do it often enough, and on C-Span, it will get traction and have to be eventually addressed. Just let someone like Glenn Beck get ahold of some video clips of some congressmen making that point over and over again and see what happens.

Good post! He sounds like he's on the right side of this thing, but we're gonna need more like him if this insanity is to ever be stopped. This whole thing is no more about healthcare than was the taking control of the banks or the auto makers. It's about CONTROL. If this plan of Barry's becomes reality we're going to saddled with it forever. We need folks in Congress with the gonads to stop it and if that requires them to throw themselves in front of this runaway train...SO BE IT!! They'll be doing it for the people and will be remembered for making the sacrifice!

If, AmSweets, as you say, Murphy
said that we should have a "sliding scale for assistance", he also needs ouster. He faults the Democrats for acting unconstitutionally, then offers to do likewise himself.

Swing by my blog More Health care Redux and read what happens to SS/medicare money. It is safe to say that the taxes collected for the public option would also fall into the same trap, by law.
This is what the average American doesn't understand. They think because it's backed by the government it can be paid back. But in reality the gov't just keeps taking from itself and lack of fiscal responsibility is astounding. The law states that the gov't can take the surplus revenues from SS/Medicare and use it for other gov't programs...it needs to be abolished!!

Probably why they want to change it.

I should have added that he said that a sliding scale assistance should be left to the states to decide on, not a federal requirement, so at least he had that attached to it, but I still don't agree with it.
