The Lies We Tell

"Do these jeans...

...make me look fat?"

Uhmmmmm?

Jimmy

ROTFLMAO! Well done buddy, spot on!

Jimmy

You da Man!

I see the postings still aren't working properly.

You know,Scottie

I am up against this all the time. And, I tell my friends anymore that I will not apologize for what I know to be true, based on my values- not theirs. I am tired of the bs...it is detrimental to doing what is right....and you make very valid points about the way things are conveniently overlooked as a means to an end for those who insist on being PC.

Scottie

I never heard your 77% pay argument before. I'll be wearing it out if you don't get it copyrighted soon.

Patriot Defender

Like you, I no longer feel obligated to propagate the lie in order to be accepted. If I am to be ostrasized for thinking for myself, so be it.

Pas Phil

I've heard this ad nauseum for the past ten years. If you take the total payroll received by all women and divide it by the total number of women employed, and then do the same for men, you will arrive at the statistic that women on average earn 77% of what men do. However, more women work part time, shorter hours, in "clean" jobs, and in "safe" jobs. It's an apples to oranges comparision and everybody with a brain knows it. Otherwise men would be unemployable. If the argument is between what the market actually does and what some lefty thinks it should do, I'll side with the market every time.

As with anything

the best and or most worthwhile path is usually the hardest one to take. Most Lefties I know are not really willing to take the time or the effort which might cause someone to dislike them or take time to explain their position. Rational thought has become too hard for many, giving the left with it's easy fix more followers who do not understand the trade off of freedom for ease.
Great article as always.

Scottie

Had seen the 77% explanation before, and you make it so well in this post.

As long as we let them get away with it they will continue with there lies, half-truths, misstatements, etc., there will be no change. We must speak up even if they try to drown us out.

Chopper Man

Since the Left seems unable to reason critically, perhaps a proper line of Socratic questioning is in order. It will become obvious to them that most of their positions have little or no foundation if they are unable to explain how they reached them.

Jevica

Thanks for dropping by. I've been dogging it lately on the blog and I'm gratified to see the response from the gang with this post. I'll try to be more diligent in the future, but life can throw you a curveball occasionally.

Brian's daughter married!
Peppermint and Goshawk tied up together!

and I haven't even been all the way around the horn yet! Jeez!

Scottie

You nailed it.Reminds me of the flap this week concerning the Bill O'Reilly/Media Matters issue. The left takes something said out of context and exploits it to suit their own PC agenda.O'Reilly said it best,
"you can forget about many white people talking about serious stuff with blacks in the future, they're not going to do it."
And why should they, you'll just be branded a rascist.

USA Eagle

I saw the Bill O'Reilly flap and I agree with him. I also saw Jesse Jackson on his program straining to find some way to find a cause for umbrage. When Bill told him the real problem was lack of fathers, I thought I'd fall out of my chair!

USA Eagle

BTW, this is a critical thought. Someone calling you a racist doesn't make you one. We need to tell the truth in the face of these unsubstantiated allegations anyway.

Yep, Scottie

Labels are so much easier than rational thought; no effort required.

Jeez Scottie, I'm jealous,

of how many special interest groups' eyes you poked in just one posting. But what would I know, I'm just a knuckle-dragger.

Gotta run, I've got to get to my meeting of the He-man Woman Hater's Club.

Brian

Isn't it about time we challenged this dribble? If the best they can do is hurl ad hominem attacks and run, I say it's time to expose the intellectual lightweights lurking behind the curtain.

I with you, bro!

The problem really boils down to playing for the sound bites. A pithy ad hominem is so much easier to squeeze into 15 seconds on the news than a reasoned discussion.

It's also easier for the blow-dried talking heads to understand, since they're just script-readers anyway. The talk has to be at the level of a 10-year-old.

it's funny

Telling the truth will kill a conversation with most folks. That's a plus for getting older. We could care less if anyone dislikes us based on our opinion of a subject.

I think truth telling makes one brave. That's why a lot of today's "men" won't do it.

And Newt talks about the destructiveness of sound bite national policy. Ideas are not thought through and discussed.

telling the truth 2

Telling the truth, especially about yourself, makes Life challenging. I have to take several things into consideration before I do or say something. I think they call this "wisdom".

Brian

Thoughts that can be put in a nutshell belong there.

Scarlet Pimpernell

We tend to tell the unvarnished truth more as we get older for several reasons:

1. We just don't care who disagrees with us.

2. It's too hard to keep track of lies as our memory fades

3. It tends to get a rise out of people. Since television has become a wasteland, this is the best entertainment available.

4. It draws like minded people out of the ether and widens our circle of friends.

haha Scottie

"It tends to get a rise out of people."

That's me in another 20 years. I can't wait to be the surly old irrepressable man hanging out at libraries, barbershops and McDonalds. lol.

As to sound bites

The republican party is just as sound bite oriented as the democrats, especially in 2004. Alot of what Kerry said was in the debates taken out of context, whether you like him or not(note: I didn't vote for him). It's a problem in general with politics though, its easier to get people to vote on emotion than intellect. The dems and the reps just do it using different mechanisms.

AC

As for my take on sound bites, I direct you to my last response to BrianR.

Thanks for weighing in, I seem to have lost my head of steam by taking some time off, so I'm grateful for any traffic as I try to get this thing up and running again.

How does this utter nonsense

persist? Women say right in your face they want to be treated like men. Is there a man alive who doesn't know what a complete lie that is? You want to make a female so angry she can't even talk, treat her like she was your best buddy. Remember that song from My Fair Lady? Why can't a woman be more like a man? Most of the other PC BS you cite is virtually as evidently crazy as the feminists, yet they persist in admiring the Emperor's new clothes. Its just to easy to get enough to eat in this country. People have the luxury of idiocy without paying the price of starvation. No wonder the orientals are eating our lunch.

Pistol

The many contradictions of the feminists would make a good article in and of themselves...hmmmmmm.

Recall when Larry Summers suggested the reason so few women were at the top of the mathematical field was possibly due to innate differences between men and women? One of the women had to leave the meeting because she became physically ill and thought she would faint at the very thought of it. How many times in the history of the world has a man experienced this sort of reaction? Like, ummm, never! The irony is truly spectacular.

Scottie

I just posted a new essay "The Outdated Second Amendment" over at my place.

Good post

We do need to challenge the lies that are spread every day about every issue. But I am afraid that for many truth does not really matter much anymore---or maybe they can't tell the truth from a lie.

BTW: I have a fresh post at the Spade---Bring gloves , cause it's hot!

Scottie

The truth shall set you free...

Shining City

No those jeans don't make you look fat, your huge butt makes you look fat.

Sheila

Yep, let's just tell the truth and let the chips fall where they may. It's a whole lot simpler than the alternative.

Help a Brother Out!

Hey, I'm trying!

And thanks for being part of the solution instead of going along with this crap.

Squiddy

Good to see you here in the Heartland. What can I say? I do what I can.

Is my blog in the running for something?

First I've heard about it. What's up?

BTW, I just posted my new blog essay, so check it out. "Revisiting RINO Rudy". Gee, wonder what it's about?

Hey, Scottie

That was pretty cool!

Thanks, man, for the nomination and the vote!

Brian

One does what one can. Best of luck to you.

Scottie

Three steaming piles of fresh blog at The Swamp!

And I thought y'all were voting for the Crawfish and his Swamp!

Crawfish

Sorry my friend, but we old-timers have to stick together sometimes. That Brian wasn't nominated given his ubiquitousness and constancy here at Townhall was a travesty I couldn't contemplate. He is largely responsible for my being involved in this adventure in the first place. He may even be a significant part of why you also blog. Give the man his propers and quit whining.
