One thing about our culture for which I am eternally grateful is the absence of larger than life public portraits of our political leaders. Thinking top of mind, the countries which have them tend to be...uh...rather undemocratic. What's more, the paintings are inevitably ridiculous.

Take for example this one of Bhutto. Not meaning to make this a personal shot at her, but my first reaction to it was: So she played Maria in "West Side Story?"

Seriously...I've always seen this type of politico-worship to be a strong indication of tyranny and/or a society's inherent weakness.
